Does the phone need to be on the same wifi, or can it work from anywhere?

The app can be accessed from anywhere and does not need to be on the same Wi-Fi as the camera. This allows you to check in and even talk to your pet while you are away.

Does this only record when motion is detected or at all times?

Security issue

The picture is really clear however I was sitting in my living room and the camera started moving by itself, we did not have it turned on (this happened twice while we were home). I spoke with a co-worker and they suggested I check Google for security settings and there was an article about hacking and that the company knows about it but does not tell it's customers. We wondered why we sometimes would hear muffles of voices when checking on our dog, and she would always stare at the camera, now we know why. The camera is now disabled.

Fine Print Costs, Huh? Wait..What?

Received today, yay!! ??? Instructions are not step by step. It’s Missing a few steps. Purchase ad does not make you aware of the necessary subscription required. The instructions does not state the need for a subscription first, I kept going around in circles ( unplug, restart, reconnect etc…) only to glance at the “fine print” on the outer bottom of the box…….see attached photo. I am hoping to get a great result and update my review after getting the subscription and camera up and running. Again, when viewing camera online and deciding to purchase the camera the ad said nothing about the requirements of a subscription. The “no refund” reviews has me worried too, because I bought two! We shall see. The quality and look of the camera is Awesome, I just hope I can get it up and running and get some value out of it with few or little interruptions. Stay tuned………..

Broke after 4 Uses

Horrible waste of money. It broke after I used it four times, and it won't even let me do a factory reset to try and fix it. The app was unhelpful- you can only record while you're actually in the app, and if the screen locks or you leave the app open and go to a different app it stops recording. What's the point of recording it if I need my phone open the whole time and I can just look at the screen? It's buggy and terrible, I'd expect this quality from a $15 to $20 camera, not a $50 one.

HORRIBLE Connectivity

Anytime power is disconnected from the camera, or if the camera becomes disconnected from the wifi network, it will NOT automatically reconnect to wifi. Instead, the solution (as stated on the wyze app), is to delete the camera from the app, perform a factory reset on the camera, and go through all of the installation set-up steps again and add the camera to the app & wifi network. Wait, there's more! Guess what, if you update the software or restart the camera, the exact same thing happens! Yup, you need to perform all the same steps again (Delete camera, factory reset, re-install)! Of all the wifi devices I've ever owned, Ive never seen anything like this... absolute garbage.

After 4 months they require a subscription to view event videos. They need to disclose this up front about the product before purchase. Loved it up till now. Go with Blink. I've had their products for years with no change. Blink is up front and consistent with their service!

Doesn't work, customer service unresponsive

This is my second Wyze cam. I had issues setting up the first one but figured it out. This one, however, I can't figure out even after following all of the trouble shooting tips on the website. I submitted a request to Wyze a couple of weeks ago with no response. This is a Wyze problem, not a Chewy problem.

It’s okay.

We bought this to be able to check in our sitter/dogs/aquarium while we went on a trip. Pros: Easy setup Clear video day/night Neat features Cons: Needs an SD card Wants you to pay for a subscription, we are NOT camera in the house type people and to only have access to certain features if you have a subscription doesn’t work for us. My biggest issue was it lost internet connection mid trip and never reconnected back to the network and my phone. This is a great camera for someone who doesn’t mind a camera in the house to see pets while at work. We did end up returning the camera because it just won’t fit our needs.

Not the same as it was

I think it’s wrong when you buy a product and then the company decides to change the rules and functionality after you’ve had it for an additional cost. They want you to donate to get your video recordings now. My cameras all have microsd cards so I dont need to pay the extortion to get my videos (it makes it more inconvenient to use) but I’m sure its only a matter of time before that goes away too.

pretty good

Seems to work for what i need it for, the only problem is, if the camera looses power, I cant seem to reconnect with my device, so if the power goes out while I'm away and comes back on, i still have no camera until i return to manually reconnect at home using the connect button and scanning the code. As long as the camera remains powered at all times, its reliable smooth footage when its connected to a good, fairly fast at home wifi connection, you can see your camera activity away from home anywhere with 4G/5G or another wifi connection, its night vision is also pretty good. Expect a vary slight delay in the footage (1 second more or less).

worked once

One star because it worked once. Set up process had some stumbling blocks with reading QR code, but finally up and running. Turned off when not needed one day after receiving the cam. Wyze cam would not turn back on. Rebooted my router, (we have hi speed connection), changed locations in home for setup, rebooted cam and spent an hour on the phone with live customer service. They said they would refund the purchase as the company was no longer stocking this item. Received and email that they could not refund me as I purchased it at Chewy??
