I bought this for four cats recovering from surgery. It's a little strange, but I read reviews to figure out how people used it. Basically, liquid waste percolates to the bottom of the pan and decomposes the short lengths of compressed paper at the very bottom into light duff. Basically, liquid waste percolates to the bottom of the pan and decomposes the short lengths of compressed paper at the very bottom into light duff. The longer the litter is used, the more it decomposes from the bottom up. Most of my cats didn't dig too much except to cover the solid waste. Some didn't bother to cover it. The only scooping I did was to uncover and remove the solid waste. Otherwise, I just smoothed it over to make it easier to see when the box had been used. I just changed the litter from a pan used by only one cat for about 11 days. Some of the litter at the top was still intact and could have been reclaimed for use at the bottom of a new clean pan. The rest was duff-like and lighter than the original intact litter. I disposed of that in the trash. One cat doesn't like it, but I am converting at least one pan to this litter after they all recover in a space where I don't want to contend with litter dust. My other litter is Swheat Scoop, which they all like, but is very dusty and bothers my breathing. … more

My cats had to have a procedure done and our vet recommended this litter. One of my cats refused to use this litter. There is 0% odor control. As soon as they go, you can smell it. I changed their litter boxes about 8-10 times a day while they used this litter. You can try putting deodorizer in there My cats had to have a procedure done and our vet recommended this litter. You can try putting deodorizer in there, but the ammonia will nearly take your breath away. I love how it’s eco-friendly, but the smell will destroy your house. And their poop paw prints will track everywhere! … more

Paper is very dark colored
By 91Mercedes on Jan 22, 2021
Paper is a very dark brown color and does not swell up when urinated on. I was able to sift only feces out but unable to determine urine. The entire litter box had to be thrown out everyday.

It works for me.

I’m using this cat litter in combination with 2 others. I only wish it were somewhat smaller so the unsoiled litter would to go through the scoop I use.

Best Decision Ever, No More Dust!
By ChicagoGirl10 on Jan 16, 2021
I've had cats all my life and defaulted to clumping clay litter. Due to recent emergency surgery with one of my furballs, we needed to use non-clumping and Yesterday's News was recommended by the doctor. After our little buddy healed, we kept using it and transitioned the whole house (2 cats, 3 litter boxes) to Yesterday's News. It takes some getting used to (scoop the treasure lumps, the urine plumps up the pellets, then they turn to dust) but well worth it. No more stepping on little grains and NO DUST. A little more work but WELL worth it. Give it a try! Some folks have commented of the smell but I haven't noticed that terribly much, though we do scoop twice a day.

My cat went for it at first but then stopped and started peeing on the floor. Had to go back to fresh step

Best Value
By Courtney on Jan 16, 2021
I use this litter in the litter pans for my pet rats. This is the best deal for the price. As I'm using it for rats, this bag lasts a while. It's also unscented, and doesn't have any clumping agents, which can be harmful to rats. Chewy has the best prices and insanely fast delivery. I definitely recommend this product for other rat owners. It's way cheaper than buying "Critter Litter", or whatever else small animal litter.

Best litter so far
By Bhumi on Jan 15, 2021
We have two cats in a small one bedroom apartment and have tried a few different kinds of litter. The flushable kind was way too smelly....the whole apartment smelled like a farm. We switched to clay with a deodorizer for the past year and this solved the smell issue but the tracking is now a problem. Who likes cat litter in their bed? :/ We started using yesterdays news after one of the kitties got an ingrown nail removed to prevent litter and dust particles getting in the wound. We love this litter! Surprisingly no smells...but I will say, we have a covered litter box so yes, when they poop, it kind of sits on top of the litter so if it's not covered you will get a whiff. But just solve that problem with a cover. You and your cat will appreciate the privacy ha Best part is NO tracking. Only a few pellets end up on the mat by the litter box which is easy enough to pick up and through away. My kitties thankfully took to the new litter quickly but they did have a few days where they felt an intense desire to play around with the pellets....could be confused as a toy ha … more

Weird but good

I like the litter fine, but my cats took some getting used to it. They use it, but aren’t into spending xtra time in the box to cover it. The silver lining is that it’s easy to scoop the poop out, and they aren’t kicking a bunch of litter out by digging and digging!
