Precautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain Toxoplasma gondii—a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Pregnant or nursing women, as well as children and anyone with a weakened immune system, should avoid handling used cat litter. Always handle litter in a ventilated area to avoid inhalation. Keep contents and packaging out of reach of children and pets. Seek medical help in case of accidental ingestion.

  • Fill the litter box to a depth of 2 to 3 inches, with plenty of pellets for pawing and covering. Remember that Yesterday's News paper cat litter is different than clay cat litter. Having the litter too deep will make it more difficult to find and remove the soiled litter.
  • Liquid waste is absorbed from the bottom of the pan. It takes a few minutes for all the liquid to absorb.
  • Remove the soiled pellets when they have absorbed the liquid and have fully expanded in size.
  • Scoop solid waste from the top of the litter box daily.
  • Replace the litter weekly.

    Allergies/immune system

    By on

Wow! We have tried more than 10 other cat litters of conventional types. The clay litters tracked all around the boxes. The biggest issue we have had is the major dust that clay litter has. My poor kitten is very allergy prone and easily gets respiratory issues. She sneezed constantly and would actually have “sneezing fits” of 6-8 sneezing consecutively. We couldn’t figure out what was triggering her sneezing fits. We have a new home, very clean and she is well cared for. Finally after desperation I thought- maybe it’s the litter? It is pretty dusty. I hate cleaning out the box because it’s a dust storm just from scooping. I switched to this paper litter and within the first 24 hours we noticed Wow! It’s been a week now and she sneezed maybe once a day compared to every time she uses the litter box. I can’t say enough good about this litter, it’s been life changing for our kitty. Plus it’s environment friendly. So BIG plus!!! … more

Not any softer than regular Yesterday's News

    By on

I am using this as bedding for my pet rats because it is less dusty and messy than regular paper bedding or wood shavings. I was hoping that the softer texture would be softer for them. It's still very hard and pellet-like. I can't speak for using it as a cat litter. Unfortunately, I will be continuing my search for a dust-free yet cozy bedding option for my rats.

    For messy cats

    By on

I tried this product because my male cat is very messy in the litter pan and springs out with wet feet and spreads litter everywhere. It does work to curb that problem, but I have to change the entire litter pan everyday to get all of the waste and odor out of the pan. Expensive product, but would be perfect for cat use after surgery.

Purchasing cat litter from Chewy.com is SO convenient!

    By on

We have used Yesterday's News litter for a couple of years and are very satisfied. It is less messy than other types of litter, has good absorbency and virtually no odor. Ordering from Chewy.com eliminates purchasing the big, heavy bags at the grocery store, loading in the car, then unloading at home. Price from Chewy was a little less than our grocery store price. Will continue ordering on line.

    Good for Immediate After Declaw

    By on

We have always used clumping clay liter but was getting an adult cat declawed and was worried she would have issues with clumping liter sticking to incisions and causing pain and then possible aversions to liter box. Heard getting non clumping helps and this specific brand came highly recommended by my vet. Didn’t have any problem with recently declawed cat using it and even my second older cat didn’t seem to care about the switch. It actually is almost completely unscented (minus a very faint... “paper” type of smell I guess) and almost no dust so no holding my breath, and even though I have to switch it out completely vs scooping clumps.... it performs really well at neutralizing odor We have always used clumping clay liter but was getting an adult cat declawed and was worried she would have issues with clumping liter sticking to incisions and causing pain and then possible aversions to liter box. I love it, my cats don’t.

    By on

Totally dust free. I love it. My cats won’t go in it. I do have their old litter in a box too, so that is what they use. Maybe if this litter is all they have to use, they would use it. I’m so afraid of them not going in that box at all now. (If I get rid of their old style litter)

    Paper Litter

    By on

I bought this litter for a bunny and it is woking well but believe it would be even better for kitties! A clean litter with no dust. They have larger compressed paper that I have also used for my bunny.

    Best kitty litter

    By on

I love that my cats don’t track this litter. It costs a little more, but totally worth not finding sandy litter in my bed, on the floor and all over my house.

    Undecided!!

    By on

I bought this hoping it might reduce the dust and litter that seems to scatter everywhere I have a box, with 13 cats that is every room in the house. I have yet to have anyone poop in the box with this litter but they do use for peeing. I love that it doesn't scatter, smell or need much scooping but when I do need to remove some I am not sure how to get out the used portion and leave the unused litter behind, other than that I love it.

    Good stuff!

    By on

I had to give this stuff 3 stars instead of 5. It's a great product but the color of the litter is too brown and too dark in color, which is a problem in locating my cat's urine. I've tried the Fresh News litter, this litter is a lighter color grey which makes it a lot better to see the urine absorbtion for disposal. Also, Yesterday's News disintegrates too fast and creates a lot of dust. Don't like my cat to inhale the dust particles when he is trying to bury his business. But on a good point; even though this is an unscented product, it keeps the odors down really good. I think I'll go back to Fresh News. I hope this review helps you make a good decision for your cats litter.
