It get's the job done, but it's incredibly flimsy and obstructs eye sight. I felt really bad having it on my elderly dog because it would just droop over her face. It's more comfortable that a traditional cone, but took more wear and tear from chewing.
I bought this for my long haired German Shepard after growth removed from his head. I had to get the extra large and fits well. It is soft so if he does run into anything it bends but it keeps him from scratching his head. It is no where near the size of those plastic cones, so he can get around easily, eat and drink with it on. It is so worth the money.
I thought this cone would be great for my lab pit mix. She has severe anxiety chewing and the plastic cone seemed uncomfortable for how long she would have to wear it. The first night, she had bit a hole in the side of it. Not even five days wearing it, and she has about torn it all apart. Also the measurements for the extra large were compatible with my dog, however she can still reach past the cone with her snout to get to her tail. This may work for a chihuahua but should not be sold for large dogs.
So far so good. Obviously needed a replacement for the plastic one that came from the vet. I like that she seems to be able to reach food and water with this. She doesn't seem to know that she can possibly reach to scratch her face or her hot spot which are the reasons that she's wearing it. We will have to wait and see if it is because it is effective or if it is just learned helplessness from the other coller. Using it With her own collar through the rungs. I also bought the large but I can't see a huge difference in size so based on her measurements we are using the medium until I can see if it is too small to be effective.
My outside dog is keeping this on & it is holding up to his semi-active lifestyle. It held up in the washing machine as well. It doesn't leave marks on his neck like the harder plastic cones.
These cones are awesome. My daughter can trim Buster's nails and prevent him biting her in his anxiety. Keeps them both safe.
Our vet approved this for dental surgery recovery. (She was surprised at the quality.) It's soft enough for comfortable sleeping but firm enough to protect. The windows are a plus over other soft collars. Advise using a soft tie to put on your pet instead of feeding the collar through. Easier removal for cleaning.
The size is not exactly accurate; Chewy helpfully replaced our cone with a size XL for our dog (16" neck) as the first we bought (L, supposedly fits 15 to 18 inches) was too narrow. This is a very short, floppy, cone and it will not work correctly for a dog with a long snout like a sighthound or collie; it's great if you have a Labrador, golden retriever or bully breed though. The cone worked OK when adding an inflatable donut as a backup. I will keep it for emergencies, it's still better than the traditional plastic. I much prefer Elizasoft Elizabethan Recovery collars which are lighter and stay open.
Great for a few days, but the wear and tear really get to it. My dog has been suffering from allergies and while we are putting medicine we can’t let her lick it off. This cone lasted 10 days before I needed to get a new one.
This is too heavy. It panicked my dog so could not use. Not Chewys fault
