Their small, dedicated team proudly handcrafts Ziwi in small batches each day. With a passion for pets around the world, they are driven to put the very best of their New Zealand home into every recipe.

Free-Range, Grass-Fed

All ingredients are sourced from the green, free-range farms and blue, pristine oceans of New Zealand. Meats are sourced from humane, ethical and sustainably managed local farms. And fish is caught in the southern oceans of New Zealand, strictly managed to ensure maximum sustainability.

Air-Dried Recipes

Ziwi naturally preserves their dry dog and cat food by air-drying it, eliminating the need for artificial preservatives, salts, sugars or glycerines. Their slow, gentle, twin stage air-drying process results in a food that's as nutrient-dense and digestible as a completely raw diet, but safe and clean to handle, and can store for up to 21 months. A little goes a long way, the recipes are so packed with the good stuff

Moist Meal Options

Ziwi has moist dog and cat food recipe options too, Ziwi implements a small batch canning process to deliver high meat and moisture-rich recipes at higher can weights using the same free-range proteins that can be stored for up to three years.

Only the Good Stuff

Made with your pet's health in mind, Ziwi is made with absolutely no grains, corn, wheat, soy, rice, rendered meats, animal meals, meat by-products, cheap filler ingredients, starches like white potatoes and sweet potatoes, ethoxyquin, pea protein, salt, sugar, glycerine, artificial flavors or colors, antibiotics, growth hormones, or ingredients from China. Just pure New Zealand goodness that helps your pet thrive.

Happy Joints, Happy Pets

All Ziwi recipes include 3% New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussels, a natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin which support long-term joint health. The Green-Lipped Mussel may only be found in New Zealand, where it is farmed using ecologically-sustainable practices.

Questions & Answers

Can this food be rehydrated with warm water? My spoiled dog is a wet food eater.
Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2021
Water can be added to this food, but if it is, please dispose of it within 4-6 hours to avoid the risk of microbial growth. Ziwi Peak Tripe & Lamb Grain-Free Air-Dried Dog Food will not re-constitute and the water does not have much of an effect on the actual pieces of food. Hence, what normally happens is the pieces get a little softer (not much) and the water sits at the bottom of the bowl.

Are any of ingredients sourced from China, even a small amount? Also can I feed this to a puppy?
Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2020
This food can is appropriate for all life stages. The ingredients in this recipe are sourced from New Zealand. In order to ensure recipes are complete and balanced for all life stages and all breeds, a small amount of carefully selected vitamins and minerals are sourced from reputable and traceable suppliers in New Zealand, Europe, Japan and the USA.

I'm confused about the feeding instructions. Is the 2oz scoops equivalent to 1 cup of food? I have 60lb GSD and am trying to figure out approximately how much this food will cost a month.
Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2019
2-ounces is the equivalent of 0.25-cups. A 60-pound dog should be fed between 4.4 to 5-scoops of food per day, which would be the equivalent of 1.1 to 1.25-cups of food per day. The 16-ounce bag will contain a total of 8 scoops, the 2.2-pound bag will contain 17.6 scoops, and the 5.5-pound bag will contain 44 scoops.

As this food is made with tripe, does it smell?
Answer by ChewyAug 18, 2018
This product has a mild smell to it.

Expensive Chinese Owned

My dog is a picky eater, and she loves this food. I have two issues with this food. First, Ziwi is now under Chinese ownership causing concerns about current and future ingredients sourcing and quality. Second, this food is absurdly expensive. A 5.5 lb bag lasts ~12 days. I have a medium size dog. I have no issues spending on quality food, but for the price (and even less), I can buy fresh or raw. I probably won't buy this again for the reasons I've identified. I'm going to use my remaining bag for treats and as a food topper.

Super smelly

I thought my dog would go crazy for this but he is pretty neutral about it. I wanted to use it as a training treat but the smell is just extremely overwhelming. I am not sure if this is normally what it is supposed to smell like.

I don't know what the headline is

this will be the last time that I am able to get this dog food from Chewy, as you do not ship to Hawaii. You can ship cross-country, but the same shipping works(ground) to the islands.

Everything for the Princess

Was waiting to give a review. Just wanted to see for a couple of months how it affects my senior flatcoated retriever. It is very expensive when you see the price. But actually it's not. Was giving my girl al kinds of supplements, that she didn't want to eat. So had to hide it in cheese etc, what is not good for their weight. These supplements were very expensive. have calculated that this less expensive. further all, her coat looks amazing. She has arthritis, but noticed the last couple of weeks she has more energy. She loves the taste of it. Before she got easily bored with her food. No, I am not getting paid for this review. I only want the best for her Majesty. She deserves it.

Use as treats , pup loves

Very expensive and have not seen an option to buy it in larger quantities. I use it as dog treats instead of meals or kibble and puppy loves them

My dog’s favorite food, beyond roast chicken.

I know that this product is very expensive. And I’m not sure if it is recommended as the sole food source. But my Rottweiler loves this food more than Just Food For Dogs, more than fresh roast chicken, more than cooked hamburger or bison. Her stools have been firm with no obvious discomfort, as often happens when introducing new food.

Ziwi air dried food a must have!

We use ziwi food as training treats. Our 6 month old golden loves it - tripe is his favorite but the others are just a good.

Food has changed

I have the Lamb & Tripe, and the Lamb formula, on auto ship. I love the smell of the tripe food- it is a sweet, pleasant smell. I opened this bag and it just smells like the old beef bullion cubes we used to make gravy from- not very nice at all. The pieces are almost half the size they usually are and the bag, which usually opens smoothly and easily, tore quickly way down the front. So I suppose they recently underwent a complete overhaul on the product, which was expected, but is disappointing. I am cancelling my auto ship for something less expensive. My dog still likes it, though, in case you are wondering. A Chinese investment company bought Ziwi Peak in 2021.

best training treat ever

I use these for training treats when I forget to make homemade ones. Or when I want something dry and clean to put into my pockets when out with the dogs, in case a training opportunity presents itself. I use the Tripe and Lamb Recipe Ziwi and the Beef Ziwi for this purpose. You can't go wrong, my dogs love them and will work really hard in training to get the reward when it is Ziwi Peak. Expensive but worth it. Because it is a real dog food, instead of just a treat with empty extra calories, I feel good using them in training. We just deduct the amount of treats from the daily food rations. Keeps my dobermans svelte, as they should be.

Excellent product

First I will say the ingredients are excellent. I switched to this, because whenever a company starts adding fruits and vegetables, or grain, or any type of chicken product, my dog's BMs get soft, or worse. But I must say, this is very expensive! Good thing I only add a little to my dog's wet food for texture, so one bag will last me a couple of months. Expensive, yes, but a Vet bill, and the suffering of my dog is way more expensive.
