Frequently Asked Questions

If I give my pet a Ziwi Peak treat, how much food should I feed?

There is a lot of goodness in every Ziwi Peak treat, so we recommend you modify the amount of Ziwi Peak food at feeding time. Your pet won’t need as much if he or she has had treats, so reduce accordingly. Much as pets love them, Ziwi Peak treats don’t make a complete daily diet. Use them as a premium real-meat treat to occasionally reward your dog or cat’s good behavior.

  • Thumbs up from my 5 cats

    By on

One of my cats kept throwing up intact pieces of dry kibble and one of the reasons why I thought this was happening was because she kept coming back to the food bowl to gorge and gorge on the food. I figured that the reason why she was doing this was because she wasn't feeling full. Protein makes them feel full and if we're being honest, a lot of the dry food offered for cats isn't packed with protein. And why should they be when the pet food companies make more money the more you buy their products? This is one of the reasons why I HATE dry food but my cats demand it so what can I do? Anyway, I started mixing Ziwi Peak into their dry food and since I have started doing this I have seen no vomit in the house! These bags are expensive and I'm pretty sure I read on the bag that there's maybe a week or two of food in each bag if you're giving full cups. I have 5 cats so there's no way I can afford to feed them like that. I mix in 3 cups of dry food plus 1/2-3/4 cup of Ziwi Peak with each feeding which is usually twice a day. Sometimes I throw in a little extra if they're being extra lovable that day. The pieces are hard little square pieces of jerky. If you have an older cat/cat who struggles to chew, you may want to moisten it up a bit before feeding. The ingredients list is fantastic...I mean it really can't get any better than this. I also feed my cats Ziwi Peak canned food twice a day. They have all been more active these days and their coats are shimmering with health. I wish this was more affordable but I would rather pay more for this type of quality than compromise quality just to save a few dollars. … more

  • Not A Good Choice for my Cat

    By on

My 9 year old loves this food, but cannot keep it down. We started her off with a very small amount, and she regurgitates it within an hour of eating (this doesn't happen with her canned food, treats, or the dog food she swipes from her larger siblings).

  • Very good to supplement kibble!

    By on

My super tasting & very picky tortie will not pay much attention to this as a treat or as an ONLY option (if the only thing in her bowl). I add a half to two-thirds cup (that comes in the bag) to the top of her kibble every day & she eats it ALL up. Not sure why she would not eat it on its own, but she eats it and that makes me very happy. It is also a pricey food so a supplement to her normal diet is definitely more cost efficient. This food does have a powerful aroma, but it either does not linger for too long or I get accustomed to it very quickly. • Ziwi air-dried is amazing

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I feed the Ziwi air-dried lamb, beef and venison. At first my cats weren't sure what to think but I was persistent and now they love it. Their coats have improved greatly and they were a little underweight before, and now they are back where they should be! Hydration and moisture content in food is very important to cats so I reconstitute this food with warm water before I feed it (I let it soak 20 mins in just enough warm water that can be absorbed). My other cats that are not fed Ziwi eat raw. I feel this is literally the next best thing to raw...

  • No go for my cats

    By on

I have 3 inside cats and one outside cat. Not one of them will even attempt to eat the food and I have offered small amounts numerous times. I think it may be the flat shape as they have been eating round kibble for 15 years. My dog lives ZiwiPeak!

  • cats went crazy

    By on Top 25 Contributor

my 4 cats all came running as soon as I opened the bag. I gave them each a few pieces as a treat and they LOVED it. I do think it's too expensive to feed as their only meal but I will continue to use it as treats as well as mixing it with their dry kibble. I mix about 1 full cup of ZP (with the included cup) to about 1 1/2 cups of dry kibble and leave that out for my cats to graze throughout the day while I'm at work. Will try other flavors soon.

  • Enjoy, but beef is Best!

    By on Top 25 Contributor

I have tried the beef, venison and lamb. My 4 kitties enjoy all but definitely beef the best. I do soak all in water for a while first for extra moisture. Will continue to buy

  • Best for treats

    By on

My cats all liked this product, only it is expensive and with 3 cats it is not practicable to use as the only food. I can give this as treats and feel like I'm not spoiling them so bad.

  • MEAT!

    By on

High quality ingredients AND all 4 of my cats will eat this. Some are a hesitant but they have never had a dried raw food before. My one cat that doesn't like it by itself will eat it if mixed with some wet food, and my picky eater will even eat this by itself! I got this to transition my dry food addict and this is a GREAT alternative for her. I will continue this with the small amount of wet food she'll eat. It also works very well for treats. My cats don't even know it's not a treat so I can feed them more than usual! This is also pretty fairly priced compared to the other dehydrated or freeze dried foods. My only complaint is that it comes in such a small bag and I have 4 cats to feed...
