    Snake Bedding

By Jakob on Jul 19, 2018

The 24 quart bag is huge. It is a good amount for what you pay for, the only down side to this product is it is dusty when you put it into the cage and you have to let it settle before putting your reptiles back into the enclosure.

    Terrible! Full of dust!

By bcarrot on May 1, 2018

Not sure how Zoo Med can claim this is 99.9% dust free. There is so much dust that I'm going to have to throw the whole bag away. Extremely disappointed. I will not be repurchasing.

  • Versatile Bedding and Great Price

    By on

Great bedding for any snake that does well on aspen. I've used it for hognose, ratsnakes, and different species of boas. You can't beat the price on Chewy either! A big bag is about half the cost here than at any of my local stores.

  • Worth the price

I use this substrate for my king, ball python and children's python. I only recommend it for these pythons if you use a tub, which keeps the humidity up, while aspen can dry up a glass tank. I tried to substitute Kaytee small animal aspen for this but they smell so bad. This has very little odor, not flat like dried coco fiber so the snakes can burrow if they wish, which my CP does over using a hide. It also absorbs pee very well. One time my king tipped over some water from her bowl after getting too excited over her food. The aspen soaked it up so well that I only need to remove half the aspen. The rest was completely dry. For that same reason, as long as I air out the tubs and mix the aspen every other day, I don't need to change out the entire tub as much. The main concern most snake owners have is impaction. All of my snakes were fed from rats to baby pinkie mice inside their tubs with no issues. They pooped just fine. Obviously use your own good judgment and try to clear the feeding area in the tub before giving the prey. … more

  • Love this bedding! Its my favorite.

Very absorbent when your pet does it's business. Hold humidity. And dry in warm areas. Keeps it's shape if you have burrowing snakes or animals. And its looks nice.

  • Great for use in plastic tub enclosures for many types of snakes

    By on

I use this in plastic tubs for snakes. Tubs help keep the humidity moderate, so the dry shredded substrate is just fine most of the time. I add a humid hide when needed. In screen top glass tanks however, this substrate tends to be too dry for snakes unless the screen is covered with something. Screen top tanks are generally not optimum for many snake species for that reason. Exceptions might be garter snakes. Please don't keep ball pythons in glass tanks, just not at all the correct enclosure for a snake like that.

  • Excellent stuff

I have a 17 year old Ball Python whom has always used this product. Aside from me fluffing it up and him smashing it flat we have had no problems with it.

  • Perfect substrate for most snakes

    By on

I recently discovered the amazing qualities of aspen, and I gotta say I'm impressed! It's easy to spot clean and lasts a long time until you have to replace it or add more. My snakes burrow and create tunnels in the substrate when they're exploring. It doesn't hold humidity very well, so it's perfect for snakes from dry climates, like colubrids and carpet pythons.

  • Finally! A bedding my skink loves

    By on

I have been through so many different types of beddings: cypress mulch, fir bark, and paper bedding. Cypress mulch felt too sharp i didnt want my skink to stab her eye out and the fir bark gave me so many splinter no idea how... but finally! Aspen bedding is soft and hold heat well and she's constantly roaming under it and making burrows. Totally satisfied:)

  • Edna's new bedding

I love the fact that this large bag (2 changes) is the price I normally pay for the smaller bag at the pet shop. This is the only bedding I have ever used. Thank you
