See Details for instructions to redeemBring the sun indoors for your bird pals with the Zoo Med Avian Sun Compact Fluorescent Bird Lamp. This lamp is specially designed to provide beneficial UVA and UVB―the full spectrum of natural sunlight that birds need to thrive and stay healthy, both physically and psychologically. Birds need UVB to make vitamin D3 which is essential for growth, overall health, and reproduction, and they use UVA to see colors, recognize mates, locate food, and identify different species. This compact fluorescent bulb provides a balanced light spectrum and is self-ballasted so you can use it in most fixtures, either indoors or outdoors.

UVA & UVB are so important for parrots to metabolize their nutrients for better health both inside and outside their bodies. It is great for their mental wellbeing. I have my lamp plugged into a timer that mimics the rise and fall of our actual sun. I still put my parrot outside in fair weather (supervised by me in his carrier cage) to get real sun as that is always the best. However, when we can't go out it's comforting to know he's still getting the UVB & UVA he needs to be healthy and happy.
I've been using the Avian Sun Bulb for a few weeks now for my Quaker parrot. So far, I have been happy with it and I think my bird is too. It isn't quite as blindingly bright as some broad-spectrum bulbs, which is nice. According to research I did, not all broad-spectrum light bulbs are created equal but this bulb really does give off the full spectrum of light, based on testing.
the life span of this bulb is short i barely got 5 hours out of it for 17.99. The birds need the light but this bulb is not the answer.
I usually have plenty of natural sun for my African Grey; however, we have moved and our current temporary home is difficult to get her out into it. She seemed happier with this light on.
Purchased the Zoo Med Avian Sun Deluxe Floor Reptile Lamp along with this bulb for my parakeets. Love it.
I use these for my parrot's sun lamp. They last a long time, unfortunately, I knocked over the lamp and had to replace the bulb! It has full spectrum light -good for the birds.
The bulb fits my bird light perfectly, and a great price!
If you can't take your birds outside in the sunshine, this light brings the sun indoors.
Just what the Dr. ordered!!! Especially during the winter months. Don't get much sunshine here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. So to make sure my birdie buddy stays healthy with strong bones and beautiful feathers she still is able to get her 10 hours of "sunshine" every day. And she stays healthy and looks beautiful!!!
This avian bulb is very good. I use it with the Zoo Med standing lamp which I also wrote a review. Both products are very good. Thanks Zoo Med!
