    Cheap, but it works...

    I bought this thermometer to monitor water and basking area temperatures for an aquatic turtle. I liked that it didn't cost much and had a probe that I could use in both dry areas and underwater. It works well, but I did have a little trouble with it out of the package. I couldn't get it to turn on, and after replacing the battery it came with to no avail, I realized the battery contact wasn't making a good connection. I bent the metal tab that touches the battery just slightly up and the unit works fine now. Also, if you purchase this, you should realize that the temperature readings aren't instant. You need to wait a few minutes for the probe to report an accurate temperature. … more

    Not useful for bearded dragon habitat

    I realized that having a permanently installed thermometer was not necessary because the temperature is not likely to fluctuate as long as the lighting remains the same. Also, temperature that I needed to measure most was that of the basking area. Leaving the probe on the basking area would not be good I realized that having a permanently installed thermometer was not necessary because the temperature is not likely to fluctuate as long as the lighting remains the same.     Temperature reading changes significantly within seconds. One moment it might read 99°F and then two seconds later it reads 68°F.
