    I bought this for my hermit crabs and it is absolutely perfect! This substrate is nice and thick; it's nearly 3 inches thick in my 20 gallon tank. It takes almost a gallon of water to prime one brick. I primed my brick with InstantOcean and then mixed sand with the substrate and one of my crabs immediately I bought this for my hermit crabs and it is absolutely perfect!     Very difficult to use dry

    __With the bricks, you have to add lots of water and break them apart, and then wait for it to dry if you don't want to use this wet. __It took about half a day to dry it all in under the sunlight. I spread it out into 3 boxes to give it more surface area and mixed it around throughout the day so that the sun would hit all parts of it, but it still took a very long time to get dry and it actually was still damp by the time my patiece ran out. I decided to just add a highly absorbent bedding to the mix and that helped with the dampness. __I'm using this for my gerbils to have digging fun. They like it a lot. They change the layout of the tank kind of often, from digging in different areas. __I won't buy this again because it's a hassle to use it dry, but I will seek out a version of this that is not in brick form. __I suppose I could have tried baking it in the oven but that is just too much work for me. … more
