  • Make sure that you have the right lamp. These are designed for medium (100 watt) to large (160 watt) terrariums or veterinary use. All animals should be able to get a minimum of 12" away from the lamp as well as have a "cooler" area away from the lamp (minimum 24 inch).
  • Open package and carefully remove lamp. Hold lamp by the base and inspect glass envelope for any possible cracks or damage. If lamp shows any signs of damage, see guarantee section of your owner's manual.
  • PowerSun UV must be housed in a reptile dome clamp fixture with a ceramic or porcelain base. Screw lamp into base, then attach clamp part to something secure like the top rim of terrarium. Position the lamp either on the far right or far left side of the terrarium. This will allow for a warm and cool area. Position dome part of the clamp lamp aiming downward and slightly to the rear of the terrarium. Do not mount the lamp horizontally.
  • Screen top: make sure the PowerSun UV lamp and fixture are above a screen cover. This lamp gets hot; don't let your animals have direct contact with the lamp.
  • Plug fixture into electrical outlet. The PowerSun UV will continue to change hue (or color) until it has completely warmed up.
  • Restarting: The PowerSun UV will take 15 minutes to cool down before being restarted. This is due to a thermal reset feature intended to prevent damage to the lamp by overheating.

Can I use the rheostat/thermostat with a Reptisun, Avian Sun or Power Sun UV?

These lamps need specific line voltages; they cannot be used with dimmers/rheostats.

How can I get the maximum out of a lamp?

Minimizing handling: lamps that get moved or vibrated burn out quickly. Make sure that the fixture isnt being moved regularly. It is best to use a quality ceramic socket, not a plastic socket. You can check your fixture by unplugging it and looking at the metal tab in the center – where the bulb screws in. This tab can be pulled slightly forward to ensure that it makes a good contact with the bulb.

Does this lamp emit UVB?

Yes! This lamp provides the full visible spectrum as well as UVA and UVB. What is UVB and why does my reptile need it?

How often should this lamp be replaced?

This lamp will provide optimum levels of UVB for 12 months so it should be replaced once a year.

How long should I leave this lamp on each day?

This lamp should be on for 10 – 12 hours a day to maintain your animals day and night cycle.
