Does this coat have an opening to attach a leash to their harness?
Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2019
This jacket does offer an opening for a leash to be hooked to a harness.

I have a pit/hound mix with a very short coat. He is my riding buddy/trail dog. We cross water quite often. I need a coat that will keep him warm and allow him to swim if necessary in the winter.
Answer by ChewyNov 20, 2019
Although this jacket is water resistant, it is not water-proof. The fabric of this coat can become heavy when soaked and is not recommended for swimming.

What temperature is this for?
Answer by ChewyNov 27, 2021
The recommended temperature range for the Hurtta Extreme Warmer is 30F to -20F

is the neck adjustable?
Answer by ChewyJan 26, 2021
This parka has an adjustable back length, collar and waist. It does not adjust in the neck.

Great Cold Weather Coat

This coat keeps the dogs extra warm on cold days. It works great! We took them out on a day that was about 42°F and my very short haired puppy was toasty warm. I'm sure he would stay plenty warm in even lower temperatures. I will say that going from cold weather outside to a heated building we did have to take the coat off because he got too warm wearing it. But that's to be expected! It's a nice heavy coat! It's not the most water resistant so it's probably not the best for days with heavy rain. But we definitely love the coat and the freedom of movement it allows the dogs. And the dogs love how warm it keeps them.

Great for short hair dogs

I bought a size 22 for my girl and was pleasantly surprised by its quality. It’s thick soft material(no need to worry about armpits get scratched by the edge), luxurious weight, size adjustable, and easy to put on/off. This will keep her warm in brutal Chicago winter! Her belly has very little hair but the chest area has great coverage and the side is long enough to block cold wind. My girl’s measurements/length:23” neck:20” chest:29 weight:56lbs

Excellent jacket for sight hounds!

My dog is a mixed breed, but shaped like a greyhound, which has made it really difficult to find a jacket that fits him correctly. After a couple of wrong sized other jackets-this one is a winner! I love that the adjustable straps make it so that the jacket can fit around his chest correctly and still be long enough. The mulberry color is more red than it looks in the picture, which we love. It is also super warm and the interior is reflectable, which keeps it lightweight. The neck has a second interior hood that is snug, but not tight. There is also a snap under the tail that adds for extra protection and warmth. So many great and intentional details-it is absolutely worth the price. My pup is ready for any adventure in this one!

Does the job, but sizing chart is inaccurate

Unfortunately this coat was way big on my boy, even though I measured and ordered according to the size chart. However, I kept it because it arrived right before a cold snap that my boy could barely stand in his other coats and I had to let him wear it. It does the job and keeps him warmer than any other coat we’ve tried, at least for short outings. I considered still reaching out to Chewy for an exchange, but felt it inappropriate considering he had worn this one. My boy hates putting this thing on, but once it’s on, he does stay much warmer than normal, though he still only handles short outings. I don’t know that this would be sufficient in sub-zero temps even for short outings for my short-haired blonde chihuahua. I think if the sizing/fit were better, it would be at least 4, maybe 5 stars.

Excellent parka

Our dog loves to spend time outdoors, but it's been difficult with the snow and cold lately. With this jacket she can run and tumble through snow at the dog park and walk for a very long time despite her short fur. The quality is excellent, as high quality a winter coat as I own with a super comfortable lining. I measured her as instructed and the fit is perfect. It's also the easiest jacket to put on- no arm sleeves to deal with! I would say, from experience, do not button the back flaps together around their legs. They will go to the bathroom and make a mess on the jacket.

Great fit, high quality

This coat ls lightweight but warm - we were looking for something for our pup that had better hip/ elbow/ knee coverage as she's in her teens with some arthritis but still loves long walks on the New England coast (even in winter). This coat has been perfect. She can be hard to fit - 35lb but a dachshund build, the 18 is just right! We tried the 20, it would have worked except for her short legs. Well made, high quality. Definitely worth the money!

Great coat

Temps have been dipping down into the teens recently and I bought this coat because it seemed warmer than his previous one. It was surprisingly soft and pretty thick. I love that the coat comes down to cover his chest and belly and also has an extra "turtleneck" made out of thinner material that can pull up to cover his ears and head. The coat also has flaps that come down to cover his butt and buttons together, however, I would recommend unbuttoning the flaps if your dog has to poop (there are buttons on the inside of the coat to keep the flaps out of the way)...lesson learned the hard way. Also, there are many points where you can adjust the fit with estastic strings: back length, around the neck, and around the top of the turtleneck. I have a 35 lb goldendoodle and the 20" fit perfectly. I just wanted to note that the pictures in this listing are of original version, but the coat I received is V2 per the Hurtta website, which is slightly different. The back elastic needs to be adjusted from the inside of the coat, and once adjusted, all of the elastics are held in place differently.

Well thought out jacket

This is a very warm, well thought out jacket. The size recommendations are spot on. The jacket is easy to put on and does allow for a full range of movement. It protects the chest from snow and has more coverage than other dog coats. Perfect for a short haired dog in cold weather climates. My terrier went from shivering after 10 minutes to enjoying the snow for an hr and a half. My only complaint: it has harness holes but is a little difficult to find the collar to leash up. Expensive but worth it.

Perfect for a 10-lb dog at -7F

Got this tiny dog last summer(he is 10 lbs). Once our temps fell below 20F, we were in trouble. The poor chap would lick his paws, shiver, jitter and was miserable. Got this coat - (plus the booties, these are from Canada Pooch) - what a difference ! We went for a 40-min walk today and he was super happy! As for the butt! I like the snap there - but probably wouldn’t enjoy washing off the poop. So I unsnapped it when I saw the dog fixing to go poopy - and re-snapped after.

Size XS Fits Russian Toy dogs!

Having a toy breed dog makes finding everything a challenge. Russian Toy dogs weigh about 6 pounds and have tall skinny legs. My daughter has a Hurtta Extreme Warmer for her Australian Cattle Dog x Dachshund Mix in size Small. So I decided to give one a try for my Russian Toy. Based on back measurements a size XS is what I ordered. It arrived super fast with free shipping - Thank You Chewy. The Hurtta has so many adjustment points which made it so easy to custom fit my Russian Toy. The Hurtta is so easy to put on and remove, the harness holes are in the correct spot (actually 2 harness holes to accommodate specific dog harness). Another great feature is the way the Hurtta is cut on the bottom side - allowing my Russian Toy male to pee-freely and the rear of the Hurtta allows the other elimination without problems. For the past year I have used the XS DogHelios Blizzard Suit on my Russian Toy - the Hurtta is much preferred for our short outings in winter weather. Here is a photo of my Russian Toy wearing size XS and my daughter’s Australian Cattle Dog x Dachshund
