I guess I’m disappointed but also comforted to see other reviews that have experienced the same thing with this product here lately. We have been buying this same product for this company for several years. I would say for the last 4-5 months every time we have received this it is different, looks different, feels different and in not a good way. I was patiently waiting before finding a different company to get our hay for our rabbits to see if the company would get their act together. Well needless to say I have had enough of their expensive, poor quality product! I will be finding a new company to get our hay through. It’s sad they have went downhill since this product is for people’s pets. Owners only want the best for their furry ones and this is no longer it!
I realize that this is Oxbow’s issue but I wanted to make sure to warn everyone to watch out for some type of plastic in the hay. In addition what is the deal with the massively long pieces of hay? My buns won’t even eat them. Attached is a small bunch of blue plastic type of something pulled from the hay.
I always buy the 50 pound box of Oxbow hay and this shipment of hay is horrible. It's extremely hard and brittle and not fresh. They hay is almost all light brown. It's suppose to be green. It's to hard, it's like my rabbits are trying to eat sticks. It's not even the same texture that I normally get. It does not look like oxbow hay either. It looks like hay horses would eat!!!!!
The hay I've used from every company but this one is softer and smaller sized. This oxbow hay (I get the 50 pound box) is giant and thick, especially recently. It's difficult to fit in the hay racks, and it makes it hard for my piggies to eat because they can't get past all the big hard pieces. All 6 of my babies prefer softer hay, so I always have a ton of these big hard straws left that I just have to throw away. I feel like I'm wasting my money - the bulk of the hay isn't usable.
I am very disappointed in this hay. Normally I use oxbow for my 4 guinea pigs, so I thought I would order in a larger amount. The hay contains thick stalks that would be more appropriate for horses. The pigs don't want to eat most of it, it just gets thrown around their cages. Very disappointed, will not be ordering again.
I have bought the large 50 pound boxes before and not had any complaints till this last box. It is all stem, and large stems at that, I farmed for many years and had horses that would not eat hay with stems this size before. I do not know how you expect a Guinea pig to. My daughter is so upset that all she does is put the hay in for them to eat in the morning and then throws it away at night because it is to big for her Guinea pig to even put in her mouth. Maybe the smaller packages are better because there is not enough room for the large stalks but this is ridiculous.
Our box of Oxbow was sadly more like straw than hay. The leaves and seed heads were huge. It must be a bad year for hay because we received two boxes with this texture hay from two reputable brands. Four stars for great customer service more so than quality of hay.
We get the 90oz usually but it’s a big bag and harder to store- so we got the smaller bag the last few times. The 40oz bag is cut so small that it mostly falls right out of the hay manger and has a lot of dust. Never an issue with the 90oz bag where just the bottom feedings we’re smaller and dustier
Usually great, this time it's more like the stuff you see on barn floors, more straw like, that nothing wants to eat. My guinea pigs and chinchilla will not touch this stuff. I am out $70+ this time on a 50lb box. Very disappointed
This used to be a decent quality hay, but the last box we received is awful. The entire box is filled with a hard, straw-like hay. The only part my guinea pigs will eat are the seed heads, which there are an abundance of. Fifty bucks down the drain.
