Frequency: Once daily during high-exposure times (walks, hikes, tall grass, etc). For extended outdoor activity, reapply every 2 – 4 hours, especially if the dog gets wet.
Store in a cool, dry place.
For Dogs: For best protection, apply Trail Guard before heading into wooded or tick-heavy areas or before long walks and hikes. At home, reapply every 2 – 3 days, and reapply sooner after swimming or bathing. Shake the bottle well, then gently lift or rough up your dog’s fur against the grain so the spray can reach the skin. Hold the bottle 6 – 8 inches away and mist evenly over the coat, covering all areas without soaking. You can lightly massage it in to help distribute the spray down to the skin. For the face and ears, spray into your hands first and then rub on carefully, keeping clear of the eyes and nose. Let the coat air-dry, no rinsing needed. For People: Shake the bottle well. Spray from 6 – 8 inches away and apply evenly to exposed skin, arms, legs, neck, and ankles. For your face, spray into your hands and apply gently, avoiding eyes and mouth. Reapply every 2 – 3 hours, or after heavy sweating or swimming. You can also spray clothing and outdoor gear, focusing on entry points like cuffs, socks, and the waistband; treat backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags as well, and allow everything to dry before it touches your skin. If you have sensitive skin or are applying to children, patch-test a small area first; avoid cuts, wounds, and irritated skin. After applying, wash your hands and store Trail Guard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
FAQ
It helps repel fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and gnats so your dog can enjoy walks, yard time, hikes, and camping without the itch factor.
Is it safe for dogs?
Yes, when used as directed on healthy adult dogs. It’s non-greasy, dries quickly, and is designed for frequent use. Avoid eyes, nose, mouth, and broken skin, and do a small 24-hour patch test on sensitive pups.
Can people use it too?
Yes. You can lightly mist exposed skin and clothing before heading outdoors. For faces, spray into hands first, then apply—avoid eyes and mouth.
How often should I apply it?
Before each outdoor session. In heavy bug areas (woods, tall grass, dusk), reapply every 1 – 2 hours or after swimming, heavy sweating, or toweling off.
Can I use it on puppies, seniors, or pregnant/nursing dogs?
Talk with your veterinarian first. Start with a small patch test and use a light application if your vet approves.
Is it safe for cats?
No, do not use on cats or cat bedding. Many cats are sensitive to essential oils. Keep cats away until treated surfaces are fully dry.
Water, Cedarwood (Texas) Oil, Rosemary Oil, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl Oleate (plant-based emulsifier), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (dispersant), Sesame Oil (helps the scent last), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Rosemary Extract, and Citric Acid for pH balance.
Will it stain fabrics or leave residue?
It’s formulated to dry cleanly without a sticky feel. For fabrics (beds, collars, leashes, outdoor gear), test a small hidden spot first and let items dry completely before contact with skin or fur.
Generally yes, but apply Trail Guard away from the spot-on site and allow the prescription product to dry per your vet’s instructions (often 24–48 hours). When in doubt, ask your veterinarian.
How do I apply it correctly?
Shake well. Hold 6 – 8 inches away and lightly mist the coat from neck to tail. Lift or ruffle fur so the mist reaches the skin. For face/ears, spray into hands and wipe on, avoiding eyes and nose. Let air-dry, no rinsing needed.
