When switching diets, it’s important to transition your dog or puppy as it takes time for her digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a 5-7 day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day 7 you are feeding 100% ACANA.
My three senior standard poodles are incredibly picky eaters. I rotate every bag with a different flavor and brand. Acana and Orijen grain-free formulas are consistently acceptable to the three of them, and the Appalachian Ranch formula seems to be a particular favorite so it’s a regular in the rotation for now.
My do loves this dog food we use it as a topper and she always eats every bit of it thanks chewy for always having a great variety of pet supplies you rock
I have used this for my dogs in rotation with one other Acana and two other brands. I am always happy with this food, my dogs love it plus their good health shows. My 8 year old just had her yearly exam and all bloodwork is perfect and her energy is great. My 4 year old is doing great also.
I recently made a commitment to feed my two picky eaters the healthiest dog food I could find that they liked--without breaking the bank! Raw, freeze-dried, and air-dried foods, while offering great nutrition and taste, were way too expensive. So my goal then became to find the best affordable kibble. I did my research and looked at the ingredients in dozens of well-known dog foods brands. And in the end I discovered that hands down, Acana Appalachian Ranch has the best canine nutrition at its price point on the market. The top three ingredients are beef, pork, and lamb. Next three ingredients are protein-rich lamb, beef, and pork meal. No meat by-products (i.e., ground up heads, feet, necks, and feathers), no corn, wheat, or soy (aka, cheap fillers with empty calories), and no artificial colors or preservatives (suspected carcinogens). And the frosting on the cake is that Acana kibble is covered with freeze-dried meat, which most dogs go crazy over! I usually top off my dogs' food with beef bone broth to add moisture and sometimes add some canned dog food as a treat to up their protein even more. So happy that I finally decided to look into what I had been feeding my babies--because I learned that grocery stores are filled with low-quality dog kibble, including heavily advertised brands that claim to keep our dogs healthy when the truth is they are packed with cheap fillers with little nutrition. Dogs need protein, not corn! And the good news is Acana Appalachian Ranch is no more expensive than many of those "premium" national brands we've been buying for years because we didn't know any better! My dogs love Acana Appalachian Ranch. No more picky eaters! They're happy and mama's happy. Everybody wins!
Both of my picky eaters love this and aren't stinking up the house with gas anymore!
I have a small dog that has been eating this food for years. I also use it as treats during the day. It always arrives quickly and it is fresh.
My dog was on this food for over 4 years and developed pancreatic issues. During the last year he was very lethargic, did not eat food regularly, was throwing up frequently and uncontrollably drooling without apparent reason. His vet recommended to switch the food to lower fat. Now 3 months after we switched food to a different brand, all bad symptoms are gone. Our dog is very energetic, no drooling or vomiting. I trusted Acana expertise in dog’s nutrition and their advertisements of natural ingredients but apparently I should have talked to a specialist before selecting this food for my dog in a long haul.
I have a Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever Mix who loves this flavor and brand. I used to feed her another brand (will not mention) and she used to get frequent tummy upsets. I have noticed her stomach is never upset with this brand and she has had much more consistent and better bowel movements. She also is a very picky eater, but she seems to love this brand. I would highly recommend this to anyone whose dog is a picky eater.
My little pittie was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago. Since then, he has gone from a very food motivated dog to the pickiest eater in the world. He was on TOTW for years, but after a few recent bouts of illness, he did not want to eat it anymore. I tried switching to Origen, but he wouldn’t even try it. So I decided to try Acana. He loves it! It has been a long time since he has gotten excited about mealtimes. Just got my second bag yesterday and let me tell you, the relief of him still eagerly awaiting his meals is something I can’t put into words. Highly recommend this food for any picky eater.
My daschund used to love all the Acana dog foods. She tried 3 different kinds and loved all 3. We tried the fishy one again she refused to eat it. So I tried this one because she loved it. But no she won't touch it. The smell is different as well.
