Protection from harsh winter elements for warm and safety

I thought the item would be perfect for a neighborhood feral cat that is cold hungry and freezing in the winter. However we noticed a very strong chemical smell from the treated wood and the cat will not go in it. He is deaf and partially blind so he goes by his sense of smell for predators and food. He is 22 years old and weak. He will stay in an old open front tent with a heating pad but is not fully protected from blowing rain and snow. Not sure what I can do to get him to go in it. I have placed him in it numerous times with food, treats and cat nip but he won’t stay. I have left the side open to show he is not trapped and has 3 exits but he won’t stay. Any suggestions?
Great ideas, not great quality
I liked this bc it had the two doors for the feral kitties’ safety. However, half of the roof broke off the first season I used it. The screw holes were drilled

We just had a little alignment issue on the roof but we're able to make it work. Great home for our cats! They love it! Would highly recommend it.

This is a remarkable little house. It comes in a flat box, and you make this gorgeous palace from the pieces! I put it together by myself (two people are recommended but honestly, that's just so you can have some good conversation while you work!) I used my ratchet screwdriver, so no drill needed. Some commenters said it had a smell - and I was concerned about that. So here's my experience: when it arrived, yes, it had a smell from the packaging, and from being closed up so tightly. There was a fresh-cut wood smell, and plastic wrapping around it all. So I set the pieces outside on my deck for a few days, in the sunshine. Voila, no smell at all now! Once I had it all put together, and the last screw tightened, I put a soft blanket inside (I'll replace that with straw this winter). The kitties immediately went inside to explore. Love it. Very affordable, useful house for my feral kitties.

Feral Cat House
Nice design and easy assembly. I love the house just wish the cats would. They are still afraid to curl up inside.

Poor Quality and terrible smell
I purchased this for my in the house rabbit. She weighs six lbs. It looks adorable and very functional. The first issue is the smell. It's not a wood or a paint
I purchased this for my in the house rabbit. She weighs six lbs. It looks adorable and very functional. The first issue is the smell. It's not a wood or a paint smell, it's a chemical smell. I cannot put a rabbit in this. I thought maybe I can paint it with KILLZ to mute the smell so I tried to put it together. The pieces were not manufactured correctly - the roof shingles did not cover the entire wood roof; the pieces were bent and mis-shaped. The quality was not enough so that i felt it could support the weight of the house as well as her weight. For the price - i expected so much better. This was super disappointed - although CHEWY handled the customer service with their usual grace and efficiency. But - please - think twice about purchasing this. I can't see how any animal could sleep inside with the smell as terrible and stron as it was.
Very nice looking house. Sturdy and easy to put together
My ferals are slowly getting used to it. I had to put some cat nip inside to get them to go in at first

Horrible Noxious Odor
I could barely get the pieces out of the box before the odor made me ill. Whatever stain or paint used is horrible, I assume that's what the odor is coming from
I could barely get the pieces out of the box before the odor made me ill. Whatever stain or paint used is horrible, I assume that's what the odor is coming from. Even if I got it together I wouldn't want my cat anywhere near it. I left the pieces out overnight and it's still noxious. Maybe I could paint over it to seal it. Not sure how I could get all the pieces back in the box to return it. ugh.
