If youre looking for an absolute cushion, this is not it. This has the thickness and feel of a light comforter or sleeping bag. It's durable. My German Shepherd has yet to snag or puncture the material. It's very soft. The back side is as stated, waterproof. It does slide a bit despite the supposed no slip texture. A smaller dog might be different. I tested the soft material and was pretty impressed. Water beads on the top and rolls off. I let the faucet run over it and it beaded and ran off. The material had surface moisture, but once absorbed, it was dry. Continual moisture will eventually give in and will be wet at the surface. With a senior dog, you still want to keep an eye as the weight of the dog laying will keep it wet. The liquid has to go somewhere. With a backup or two, it's a pretty good system in that case for me. I had some feces residue that sprayed right off. Urine was the same, but you'll need a good wash spin if you hand wash. The liquid will need rung out. I rolled and squished it out, but that was too much effort to do that often. That's my personal opinion. Fluid does not pass through the bottom at all. I am satisfied with it. We'll see how it holds up. I got it on sale. I'll wait for another and get some backups.
