We Love This Food
This formula, along with the Turkey/Pumpkin, are favorites of my dogs with allergies. No chicken, peas, corn, wheat, or soy = happy dogs. I like that it includes high quality grains that don't cause my dogs to lick/chew their paws and develop ear infections. Kibble is rather SMALL (about the size of M&Ms), so if your dogs tend to eat too quickly, I recommend using a slow feeder.
Great food for dogs with chicken-allergies
I switched from the Turkey and Pumpkin to this a month ago and not only does my dog like it, her coat and stool quality have never been better, but she’s also stopped with the scratching and licking. I should note my dog has a lot of food allergies and so far this hasn’t exasperated any of them. My only complaint is that the kibble pieces are really small so my 120lb Rottie doesn’t feel like she has to chew (note: I also soak food in hot water before she gets it so that could have something to do with why she doesn’t always chew her food).
Food seems good but dog didn't like it
Not sure why, but my dog took 1 bite of this food and rejected it.
My dog LOVES this food but..
it has not been in stock at Chewy's in the 30 lb. bag in 2021! I have been trying to find it from another vendor but no luck yet. Have to start researching all over again to find another food without legumes, peas, chicken etc.
It’s a no.
Dog was not crazy about it. Only ate it when starved. I wet it to see if it would help and it had a bad smell. Dog wasn’t interested at all in the softened food. I think the food sounds amazing but little miss said it’s a miss.
This was our absolute favorite until the last shipment, food texture and size has totally changed, company reported they switched to a new extruder
So far, it's a hit!
We have two tricky dogs to feed - a 5-year-old mix and a 10-month-old Golden Retriever. The puppy is allergic to chicken, has a sensitive stomach overall, and we avoid giving him legumes, while our mixed rescue is sensitive to some grains and is just picky about flavor. Finding a food that I knew they both COULD eat based on their sensitivities proved to be pretty challenging, so I was relieved to find this formula. I was nervous that one or both of them wouldn't like it, but so far, they both can't get enough! The puppy is still on puppy food for a couple months, but he's very interested in this food already, which is reassuring. No issues at all with the transition for our rescued girl - she loves this food and eats it with much more excitement than she did with her previous food!
Not a success for a picky eater
My dog has been on American Natural Premium for quite some time. He is typically a pretty picky dog but on every other formula of this food he has always held lots of interest and happily eats it. We bought this formula to try this month and sadly he took one bite and spit the kibbles back out all over the floor and now refuses to eat.. it’s unfortunate because the ingredients are amazing and I’ve loved all their other formulas and I was hoping to be able to feed this one as well. We will just have to go back to feeding the other ones we have tried.
My dog is 10 years old and I have fed him American Premium the majority of his life. He has dental issues and I had tried Royal Canin Bulldog, and although I liked it, I felt that the larger kibble was too difficult for him to chew. I went back to the smaller kibble, and you can tell the richness of the product by the dark kibble. He loves it. The only drawback is that larger bags are currently not available, so I have to buy the smaller bags to keep it in the house.
Won't Find Better
Very impressed! Have done much research of dog nutrition and grain inclusive foods and this food and formula is the best of the best I've found. First several ingredients are meat and NO corn, wheat, soy, potatoes, peas, chickpeas, glutens, salt, artificial colors or flavors, by products etc, and my picky dog who was disinterested in many other brands, eats it as soon as it's put down. Only down side is it's pricy and offers no autoship discount. Also an issue I have not had with other brands os the large size has been out of stock for awhile, then medium and large size out, but maybe it's a new product for Chewy and that's not going to be a reoccurring problem.
