Baldwin (and his sister Jojo) were feral kittens and 100% black when I adopted them about 8 years ago. In the last 18 months, Baldwin had been turning brown. My vet recommended all sorts of tests - we were worried about kidney function but values were ok. Jojo was NOT turning brown (also, Jojo has great teeth and Baldwin had most of his out before 2 years of age due to stomatitis). Earlier this year, some random internet person asked if he was Burmese or Bombay. I said "he's just turning brown, we don't know why!" Another random internet person said that her vet recommended phenylalanine and tyrosine when that happened to her cat. I did some research and found some scholarly articles that described the same kind of issue. I found this supplement on Chewy and have been giving him 1/2 capsule on his food in the mornings. He's already significantly darker - and as a bonus - he's not as much of a scaredy cat these days, and seems a little more confident (slightly less hand shy, still a lot after being indoors for 8 years). We're very happy with the results!
