Description

Treat bacterial infections in your fish and reduce the risk of spreading illness to other fish with API's Melafix Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy. Bacterial diseases are caused mostly by dirty aquarium conditions and adding infected fish. Fish that are injured and have open wounds are especially susceptible, even in seemingly clean tanks. Bacterial infections, like fin and tail rot, eye cloud and mouth fungus can destroy tissue and other organs and if left untreated, can lead to fish loss. API Melafix is an all-natural antibacterial treatment that helps heal open wounds, treats bacterial infections and promotes re-growth of damaged fins and tissue, usually within a week. Just add 5 ml per 10 gallons of aquarium water. It will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH or discolor the water.

Key Benefits
  • Heals bacterial infections such as tail and fin rot, eye cloud and more.
  • Formulated to repair damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds.
  • All-natural, antibacterial fish and coral medication.
  • Contains the healing properties of melaleuca, tea tree extract.
  • Designed not to harm biological filters, and is suitable for marine and reef aquariums.

FAQ

Is API MELAFIX recommended for freshwater tanks?

API MELAFIX will treat your fish’s symptoms in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. If you are treating fish in a marine or saltwater aquarium, dose with API MARINE MELAFIX.

How do I diagnose disease in my fish?

Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API medications, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.)

What’s the difference between API MELAFIX and API BETTAFIX?

API MELAFIX is safe for delicate fish species, all marine fish, and reef aquariums, while Bettafix is specifically formulated for Betta fish.

Does API MELAFIX work for fin rot and Ich if my fish is fighting both?

API MELAFIX heals bacterial infections such as fin & tail rot, eye cloud, popeye, body slime, and mouth fungus. As a general note, all API medications can be used in conjunction with each other safely, as long as you are able to follow the directions for both during treatment. We would not recommend using more than two medications at a time unless you are certain of the diagnosis of multiple ailments, so that you can tell which medications are working or not working while troubleshooting a stubborn symptom or disease.

After treating for several days, my water turned very foamy, and hasn’t gotten any less foamy over the past three days. Is this normal?

It is normal to see some foaming when using API MELAFIX, and it is not harmful as long as the proper doses were given. In terms of duration, the foaming of this product can last a variable amount of time depending on what is dissolved in the water. Water that contains a lot of dissolved organics or proteins can experience more foaming that lasts for long periods of time, but in general, if foaming lasts more than a week after discontinuing the treatment, we would recommend more frequent water changes and the addition of Activated Carbon or Bio-Chem Zorb in order to eliminate any remaining medication. Make sure that skimmers are turned off during treatment, as this would contribute to excessive foaming. It may be prudent to turn the skimmer pump flow down when it is restarted after treatment, to account for medication residues until they clear from the system.

Will API MELAFIX work in both freshwater and marine aquariums?

I saw foaming in my aquarium after using API MELAFIX. Is this normal or harmful?

    Not sure yet

    By on

I bought this for my two gigantic comet goldfish. One has cloudy eyes and can’t see its food. The other some skin irritations. I’ve been using this for 2 weeks and no sign that it’s working.I’ve tried many medications and thought, by reviews, that this would be the cure all. I’m not very optimistic that it will do the trick.

    Incredible product!

    By on

One of my large Koi developed two red "bruises" one on each side of its body. First round of treatment completely cleared one of the red bruises and lessened the size of the other. However the remaining "bruise" has a small scrape in it. I began a 2nd round of treatment and the healing is nearly complete. So happy with this product and the price on chewy.com - it's saved my expensive Koi as well as my bank account!
