I have a few tetras in a 10 gallon tank. I have always fed them flakes that float,or frozen brine which sinks slowly when thawed. This product comes in very tiny pellets that quickly sink to the bottom. Initially, the fish did not even try to eat it. After a few more tries, a small amount was.eaten as it was sinking; some.was caught and spit out. However most just sink to the bottom, and I havent seen them eat off the bottom. This may be great for the bottom feeders, but I wouldnt recommend it for fish that primatily eat floating food. Maybe the snails will enjoy the food!

Pellets or flakes?

I was feeling good when I picked Aqueon’s PRO sinking Pellet Fish Food, Herbivore formula. I have a few fish in my aquarium that love to nibble on some of my live

I was feeling good when I picked Aqueon’s PRO sinking Pellet Fish Food, Herbivore formula. I have a few fish in my aquarium that love to nibble on some of my live plants for a treat. So I thought this would be something good and different for them. I have Black skirt Tetras, Red Eye Tetra, Neon Tetras, I also have a few assassin snails. I feed all my animals in the morning so that I don’t forget if the day ahead gets too busy. When I opened the container I noticed that it had no pour spout. I would give customers the option to have a controlled pouring option or maybe even a little scoop of sorts. Of course I could use my fingers but if you have fingernail like I do, majority does get stuck underneath my nails and a lot goes to waste. There is a lot of pellets so it’s not like you’d run out fast. I created a small opening my making a small tear in the foil. It did not work as planned so I decided to tear out the foil entirely and I spilled a lot of it. That’s not a them problem but mine of course. I wish they had a controlled pour/shake. The pellets are super small. At first the pellets went unnoticed by all except one of my small Neons. I dropped a few more in and more of them caught notice and went after it. However I did notice that my bigger tetras who are full grown now (I’ve had them for 2+ years) were getting to them a whole lot faster and easier than my smaller fish. I lost count of how many pellets I dropped in with hopes that the little ones could eat. I saw only 2 out of 7 of them eat because the pellets was too big for its small mouth. I do recommend this product if you have generally the same size fishes or if you don’t mind feeding them different foods at the same time. I’ve done this in the past and it messes with my water levels so I would rather not go down that route again. It seemed that for my preference and overall aquarium health the flakes are easier. If I had bottom feeders this wouldn’t be a problem as they would eat whatever the fishes didn’t catch. I recommend reading the side panel to see if this is ideal for your type of fish. I will continue to do their normal flakes because I know that they will all eat. I can maybe alternate between flakes and pellets and see how that goes. I’m not completely sold on the product. I guess it’s a matter of preference. I wonder if they have this same formula in flakes? If so, I would be curious to try that out.

Aqueon Pro Sinking Pellets are perfect for our 10 gallon aquarium which has cardinal and neon tetras. This product has very good ingredients such as plant nutrients, and a blend of algae with probiotics to keep our fish healthy. The aquarium also stays nice and clear with no cloudy aftermath from the pellets. The price is great for the amount of pellets purchased also!

Aqueon Herbivore Sinking Pellets

It sinks well but is very tiny. It would be fantastic for baby/small cichlids or other herbivores.
