Questions & Answers

4 Customer Questions

will this work to clean a 75 gallon tank?
Answer by ChewyNov 14, 2019
The Mini, 5 inch cleaner is suitable for 1-5 gallon tanks, the Medium, 9 inch is suitable for 15-35 gallon tanks, and the Large, 16 inch is suitable for 40 gallons or larger tanks.

Can this be used for fish tanks with sand as well?
Answer by ChewyFeb 11, 2019
This Gravel Cleaner is not recommended to use with sand as it is too fine and might get clogged. For sand, we recommend using a fine net.

what is the diameter of the tube. is it smaller than the one on the aqueon syphon with the syphon starter?
Answer by ChewyJul 04, 2019
The Mini is 1 inch in diameter, the Medium is 1.5 inches in diameter, and the Large is 2 inches in diameter.

would this work well for a 10 gallon turtle tank? (it's filled about a third of the way with water)
Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2019
The mini-size hose is suitable for 1-5 gallon tanks, the medium-sized hose is suitable for 15-35 gallon tanks, and the large size is suitable for tanks 40 gallons and more.

don’t buy unless you want to struggle

This has been really hard for me to use for a couple months for starters, it doesn’t come with a pump so you can do it by hand, instead you have to suck out the air through the tube and you have to time it so no fish water gets in your mouth the only good thing about it is that it drains the water pretty quick either way, I ended buying a siphon that attaches to the faucet and it ended up being wayyy better.

Aqueon Siphon

The product arrived in excellent condition and on time. Does the job. Chewy was so great to work with too, when I ordered the wrong size at first.

Great for my planted tanks!!!

I love this small tip! I decided since it was cheap I should try it. I will never use anything else. It's suction is good and I even use it on my 30 gallon. So happy with it!

Broke right out of the box

The first time we used this product and it broke as soon as we tried to use it.

Hard to use

I have no idea how you're supposed to engage the suction on this thing. I got it because the standard-sized gravel vacuum I got empties my 5.5 gallon aquarium in about 3 minutes, and I just wanted something to suck up the snail poop on the bottom. The directions say to "quickly move it up and down" or something, but that just splashes water all over the place. I ended up shoving the smaller sucker onto the tubing of my larger gravel vacuum that has a little hand pump attached, making it actually usable. I wouldn't buy this on its own.

It fell short to my expectations

It lacks suction power. The waste doesn't even make it to the top of the tube. The water drains very slow. The hose is long but it's section is very narrow. That's a big part of the problem. I will not recommend it.

Baffling Physics

This pump did not work at all, and baffled our resident scientist, as the physics should be very basic. There is no logical reason for it not to work as intended, and we checked the tubing for holes, and trouble-shooted with online videos to no avail. At least it was inexpensive.
