I used this and it syphoned out 2 buckets. After dumping the second bucket of water, it would no longer siphon water. Is there something I can do to make it work again? I just bought it. It also leaks all around the bulb.
Answer by ChewyJun 19, 2019
To begin siphoning, completely submerge the intake tube into the aquarium, then squeeze the priming bulb 4-6 times until siphoning begins. When assembling, one end of the priming bulb is labeled "OUT", the other side is labeled "IN". The long hose should be attached to the "IN" side and the short hose attached to the "OUT" side of the priming bulb. Running the hose under hot water may help soften it making it easier to slide onto the priming bulb.

will the large 10" work well on a 55 gallon tank, or should I get the 16"
Answer by ChewyJan 15, 2020
This Large 10-in gravel cleaner is ideal for aquariums 15 to 55 gallon tanks. The Large 16-in gravel cleaner is ideal for aquariums 40 gallons and larger.

Do you have to take the fish out of the tank?
Answer by ChewyDec 02, 2019
It is not required to remove your fish when cleaning the aquarium with this gravel cleaner.

Why can’t you use this on plastic or acrylic tanks
Answer by ChewyFeb 18, 2019
This can easily scratch acrylic and plastic tanks.

Liked it until last time

I have used this for approximately 2 to 3 months, with no issues. However the last time I went to use it, it somehow leaked around where the hoses connect to the pump thing. Very sad as this made life SO much easier, initially... changed water in like 5 minutes versus an hour and was probably one of my favorite items, but now it's going in the rubbish because I definitely don't want to deal with figuring out the leak.

I've been using the old fashioned siphon pump for years. Thought this would be easier. Nope. I got the large one and it's way to long for me. The Bulb is very hard to squeeze & is harder to get the siphoning going than I anticipated. Wasn't worth my money.

Used Once/Twice - Won't Work

We used this once, maybe twice and now you can't get it to suck up any water. There are no kinks in the hose, no leaks, I don't know why it won't work.

This is the absolute worst purchase I have made for my tanks. Half of the time, it won’t begin pulling water through at all. I’ve had to have three people taking turns pumping it as hard as we could with the “out” section below the “in” and nothing. Today, after the fourth use (we tried it again for whatever reason), we had to throw it out because it is pulling water in and then immediately pushing it back out which soaked us and the living room couch. It is hooked up correctly, the flow is correct (we’ve tried it various ways with the same result). I wouldn’t pick this up even if it was free.

Little suction

Use twice and the third time it wouldn't suck up the water. The two times it did work I felt it sucked up more water than it did the debris. You could just watch the debris swirl around the tube rather than follow the water out. Ended up getting a refund and will be looking for a different brand.

aqueon vacumm

This vacuum makes it so much easier than my old vacuum for my aquarium. I like the fact that it has the bulb to get the water started. My old one had to be submerged in order to start the water flow. It was too messy.

Doesn't Work

I've been using Aqueon siphons for years. I got tired of manually siphoning and hoping not to get dirty tank water in my mouth so I bought this to benefit from the siphoning bulb. After submerging it completely under water and with the bucket a good 4ft below it on the ground (as well as attempting at various levels) all it does is push air into the tank. I then tried turning it completely sideways to let it fill up with water manually before, during and while priming... still no luck. I just watch it push either air or water back into the tank. I also tried bouncing it up and down to prime it like some of their other vacuums - nope. I'm guessing there are a series of flaps/trap doors through the device because I couldn't even siphon it with my mouth the way I do on my older vacuum. It is sturdy and I like the thick tubing but none of that matters if I can't get it to work. Chewy was great at working with me to resolve this issue with a fast and friendly refund on the purchase.

Good for a water change, but not for debris removal

I was excited to have a siphon w/ a priming bulb and that part does work very well, but the bucket clip was a bit unhelpful (maybe if you have it towards the very end of the tubing or if the tubing is straightened out more? I tried trimming and still had issues). The siphon pulled up water nice and quickly but non of the food or poo was coming up... it got into the cylinder and then just sunk back down.
