How are you supposed to clean it like you would the gravel?

Answer by ChewyJul 14, 2019
To remove surface debris with a gravel siphon, lower your siphon until it is about ½ inch above the sand’s surface. Move the siphon in a back-and-forth pattern, holding the depth level, as you pick up debris and dirt. You can expect for the siphon to pick up some sand particles with this method. You can then re-rinse those particles and re-introduce them to the tank or you can throw them out. It is often a good idea to add in new sand every few weeks anyway.

Not good aquarium sand

Marketed as aquarium sand. After hours of letting it settle, it was still floating around. Turned my filter on to try and help clear it up and it ruined my filter

Marketed as aquarium sand. After hours of letting it settle, it was still floating around. Turned my filter on to try and help clear it up and it ruined my filter (sucking up all the sand). I’ve added everything to my tank, fish, live plants, aquascape stones and figured after a few days the water would be clear and it isn’t. The water has a constant haze to it and now I am going to have to take apart my tank to get new substrate.

Excellent filler for loudspeaker stands

Not a pet-related use, but hey, it works as a great damping material to use in hollow, steel speaker stands. Very fine-grain sand with little/no moisture conten

Aquarium Sand

I’m trying sand because the pebbles held dirty particles that could never clean out. I’m still learning if this works. It appears better because particles stay on

Very Disappointed

I needed white sand for a small aquarium. Sand turned brown when it got wet. Water stayed discolored and slightly cloudy. After removing the sand and starting over
