Armarkat 50-in Classic Cat Tree with Bench & Perch

I really wish I could give this a good review. It’s a cute design, it’s rated for heavier cats, the actual carpet covering it is fairly soft and shaggy enough that the cats like to pluck it. It’s possible I was just unlucky. But less than four months after purchase, I had to retire this tree because it had broken in a way that endangered my cats. Some notes: my heaviest cat is 16lbs. My lightest is 6lbs. We have several large males, so heavy duty cat trees are a must. I bought this cat tree on June 5th and assembled it on arrival a few days later. The first problem cropped up then: there was an exposed staple point on the underside of a platform. Well, the cats won’t be in danger from that. But it’s hidden in the carpet and placed precisely where your hand will catch on it when you try to lift and move the tree. I tried hammering it flat, but it still caught against skin easily. I should have returned it then, but it seemed minor at the time. I covered the spot with some duct tape. Fast forward a few months, and the tree is wobbly. You need to periodically tighten parts on trees, sure. But this got to a point where we couldn’t tighten the bolt on one top platform at all, it would just wobble and bounce, and the bolt would spin without a difference in stability. Then a few weeks after that, in early September, one of the supporting rods on the top of the condo popped off altogether. The plastic interior tube that the screws insert in had cracked. The screw had nothing to thread against, and the tree was dangerously unstable as a result. If a cat jumped onto or off of the tree, the force would send the supporting pillar off the end of the screw, then compress back down if a cat jumped or climbed onto the platform as it was only half supported. I don’t see a way to repair the interior shy of replacing the thread casing altogether; and if I could do that I’d simply make my own cat tree. So, yeah. Cute pattern. Seems to be cheaply made, and I can’t recommend it. I hope this brand makes more and better trees, but I’m not sure I’ll try another from them any time soon. This cat tree is awesome! It was easy to put together, the price was reasonable for what you get and my cat loves his new space!
