I also place these pads underneath the top sheet and towels on the guest bed that the kitties sleep on top of and, if they throw up, the pads are very good at trapping the moisture and keeping it from filtering down to the mattress cover.

I got a puppy in July and he picked up on potty training bells really quick so I only bring these pads around for safety when we're in a public place, or out on our boat. When I do leave them out he's more likely to chew them than to use them - but I don't think there is anything harmful in them for him to chew. Still, it's a comfort to have them and they are super absorbent when I put his water and food dish on them and those spill. Multi-purpose I guess!

The surface of the pads is black due to the carbon. It is a very thin layer which is great. It's about as thin as printing paper. Very convenient for you to take when traveling because it is so light. The package comes in five of these pads. They also come in different variety depending on the size of your door. My daughter really loves this pad. He sat on it as soon as i place it on the floor.

My dogs don't travel well and tend to always potty inside instead of outside of our Airbnb or hotel room, since they aren't comfortable with the new area. These pads work great for us. The big difference between these and other pads we use is the charcoal filter. These definitely help mask the smell and odor of pet waste. Also, when I pick these up to throw away, no waste gets on my hands because it is easy to grab on the corners. I would gladly buy these again.

I used one under my kitty litter boxes to help catch excess urine. I was a little confused on which side should be up and couldn't find any direction or pictures to help clarify. I went with charcoal up.
