FAQ
Your veterinarian is best suited to discuss and recommend appropriate medications for your dog. It is important to discuss your pet's health history with your veterinarian so he/she can decide if Barrier® is right for your animal. Barrier® should not be used in sick, debilitated or underweight animals. Dogs should be tested for heartworm disease prior to giving Barrier®. If your dog tests positive for adult heartworms, your veterinarian can recommend appropriate treatment. If your dog is older than six months of age, your veterinarian may decide to test him/her for heartworm disease before prescribing Barrier®.
Your veterinarian will recommend the appropriate dose for your dog based on its body weight. Do not administer Barrier® to dogs younger than 7 weeks of age or weighing less than 3 lbs. Barrier® is available in a variety of dose sizes for dogs of different weights.
If you forget to apply a monthly dose of Barrier®, immediately apply Barrier®, resume monthly applications, and notify your veterinarian.
Contact your veterinarian if you administer more than the prescribed amount of Barrier®.
- Remove the Barrier® tube from its protective package.
- While holding the tube in an upright position, twist the cap to break the seal. The cap will remain on the tube.
- Barrier should be applied to the top of the neck between the base of the skull and the shoulder blades.
- Apply the tip of the Barrier® tube directly to the skin by parting the hair. Squeeze the tube firmly 3 to 4 times in one spot until it is empty. Keep the tube compressed on the final squeeze to avoid drawing liquid back into tube. Avoid contact between Barrier® and your fingers. Do not massage Barrier® into the skin. Do not apply when the haircoat is wet. Do not apply to broken skin. Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the application site in some animals. These effects are usually temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
Yes. Bathing or shampooing your pet 2 or more hours after application will not reduce Barrier’s ability to prevent heartworm disease. Waiting to bathe your pet for 24 hours after application with ensure optimal flea protection.

We have 5 dogs and we live on 10 acres. This works great for fleas, ticks, and heartworm prevention. We switched to the lower cost. As long as you don't mind putting a topical on your pet and watching them for a half hour so they do not lick the treatment, it saves you a lot of money and it works well. It's also super easy to keep your prescriptions in one place at Chewy.

I was hopeful about this product since it covers quite a lot of things and is a much more affordable price point. Unfortunately I used this product for the first time today, and am really unhappy with the quality and have potential safety concerns of product transfer. Directions state to keep dog from licking for 30 minutes after applying, indicating it will be dry by then, but 8+ hours later and my dogs shoulders and back are greasy and I can feel the product transfer to my hand. This also left a flakey white residue, which my dog does not usually have, and I put this on less than 24 hours after she was bathed and coat conditioned. In addition to this, the smell is absolutely horrendous. It’s a strong chemical smell that lingers on her coat, I can smell it when she gets anywhere near me, and it makes everything she touches stink. I am really disappointed in this, I’m going to have to look at using a different product next month and now I have 5 months of product that I won’t use. 0/5 do not recommend.
Cost efficient. Covers multiple pests.

Been using this on all 3 dogs for a couple of years. Annual HW tests are always negative. If a flea gets on them, it's usually gone soon. This also covers several worm types, so it's the best, most cost efficient multi-treatment I have found. It seems to be generic for Advantage Multi.

I couldn't get Autoship to work when I recently ordered Barrier Topical Solution for Dogs, 55.1-88 lbs, 6 Doses (6-mos. supply) so I ended up ordering 2 packs.
