How do you get the lid to lock? Seems like there is enough wiggle room to allow rain water or a varmint to get into the grain.

I was hoping to use the 4 gallon container as a dog waste receptacle. Does it hold grocery store bags?

Will the food get a "metal" smell/taste? My dog will not eat food in a plastic container, I think because she can smell the plastic. Thank you.

The food would not have a metal taste. Only acidic foods should not come in contact with galvanized steel. The acid in some foods reacts with the zinc coating to form salts that are readily absorbed by the body and in excess could cause a very mild sickness.

It's big! Locks stink in and keeps moisture out

I didn't use this size for any pet purpose. It was too big. I put this 10-aal size in my garage to hold deicer. I bought the smaller, 8 gal. one for trashing cat

I didn't use this size for any pet purpose. It was too big. I put this 10-aal size in my garage to hold deicer. I bought the smaller, 8 gal. one for trashing cat litter. I LOVE these cans. They hold smells like the plastic ones never did. Even when I lined the other cans, stinkiness still seeped out. With this one, it's clamped tight. No smell. Fantastic!

I purchased this to store bird seed which I keep in my garage. I started using the galvanized steel storage containers when a family of voles decided to use my garage as a winter home. I had bags of seed stored in locking lid tubs and they chewed a hole below the lid so they could get into the container. Ironically they could not get out because the tub was plastic. It took a bit to get them out of my garage and now I only store my seed in galvanized steel containers - Lesson learned and I no longer have voles in my garage.

Over packed again

Box was, once again, over-packed so not only did I herniate myself hauling it in, the contents made the huge bag of birdseed burst and spill all over the box.

Good seal!

We store a lot of food items for our chickens that come in bags. That is not ideal for freshness or pest security. These cans work great for both of those issue
