Is this item made from bpa free plastic?

This product is made of BPA Free material.

Is the waterer made from #1 or #2 plastics that can be recycled?

The material used for the base of the waterer is high density polyethylene (HDPE) and the recycle symbol for the base would be #2. The waterer or bottle is clear/rigid blow molded PVC and the recycle symbol for the bottle is #3. The cap is molded out of polypropylene (PP) and the recycle symbol would be #5. None of the parts that make up the Gourmet Waterer have the symbols molded into the plastic. All of these materials are recyclable.

Do I have to buy a specific gallon of water to fit the base or could I use any 1 gallon, such as a Deer Park jug?

The shape of this waterer makes it only compatible to the gallon jug the product includes.

Bought this after going to a local pet store. It’s lasted 6 months and already has a hole in the water bottle. The lid is hard to screw on and off and has a little tiny hole in it where the water drains into the base. As the cats would drink the water, the top would shrink until the water would drain into the base. That constant shrinking and then expanding caused the hole. I would waste your money on this one.

I was so excited about this water bowl for our dog and cats. They are forever emptying their water dish and I thought this would give me a break from filling the water dish five times a day. I filled this and it kept over flowing into the floor. I took it off and made sure the lid was in correctly and tried again. I filled the water jug again and that’s when I realized, even with the lid screwed on correctly and tightly, it leaks without the water hole open where the water is supposed to come out. I can’t figure out how to return this item....HELP!

I thought this waterer would be perfect. The size was great. However, it leaks terribly. I have carpet in my dining room. Luckily, I already planned to replace it
