Instructions
Keep the Best Friend Mobility wheelchair clean. Wipe down aluminum surfaces with warm, soapy water using a soft cloth such as a microfiber or cotton rag. Rinse and dry.
Check the bolts and screws frequently; retighten if loose. Adjust or tighten loose straps as well.
Remember to hose or wipe down tires to keep them from tracking dirt.
Wash the sling, harness, and straps in cool, soapy water and hang them to dry. Opting for a perfume-free detergent will help your pet avoid skin irritation. You may want to try odor neutralizers (homemade or storebought) to counter any smell that may remain in the harness.
Size
Please make sure to always measure your pet. The recommended breed is just a suggestion, as breed sizes can vary.
How To Measure Your Pet
- Measure your pet from the floor at the back paw straight up to the top of the back, not over the top.
- Please have a helper hold your pet up while you measure.
- Have your pet in a normal standing position.
| Size | Pet Height | Recommended Breed |
|---|---|---|
| X-Large | 23 to 29 inches | Husky, Boxer, German Shepherd, Labradors, Australian Shepherd, English Springer Spaniel, Vizsla, Weimaraner, Border Collie, Belgian Malinois, Portuguese Water Dog, German Wirehaired Pointer, German Shorthaired Pointer, Chow, Giant Schnauzer and many more breeds. |
For pets without the use of their hind legs: while standing still on a level surface, the height of the wheelchair should be set so that the shoulders and hips are even. Please note that when your pet is walking or running, their backs will not stay even due to their movement.
For pets with the use of one or both their hind legs, the wheelchair height needs to be set so that their paws are able to lightly graze the ground and provide them with enough traction to push off with the rear paws.
FAQ
Getting your dog on a wheelchair can help improve many aspects of your pet’s life tremendously. At the forefront are the more obvious physical benefits, your pet will be able to move around, toughen its remaining functional limbs, and fight the other signs of deterioration by improving overall health.
Then, there is also the emotional health aspect. Being unable to move around and feeling helpless is a sure downer, especially for once highly active pets. Giving your pet a chance to walk, run, play, and socialize will do wonders for your pet’s attitude and outlook, which in turn will reflect on his or her physical well-being as well.
Every pet is different. Some pets take to mobility aids the almost instantly while others will need a bit more time to get used to the idea and the actual physical sensation of being on one.
Many other factors such as a pet’s age, the condition it suffers from, general health and strength, and even personality can determine the length of time a pet will take to get comfortable in a wheelchair. Observe you pet closely and follow the notes on the manual.
Yes. Your pet can go up and down some steps with help and supervision.
If your pet is just starting out on a wheelchair, we recommend short durations to get them used to being on one and to strengthen their forelegs. The basic regimen is a 10-minute session of walking while on the wheelchair over a hard surface, twice a day for the first few days. You can increase the sessions to three times a day once your pet has adapted. As your pet develops more strength, you can extend the time it spends on the wheelchair based on its stamina.
An important thing to keep in mind is that pet wheelchairs are not intended for use for long durations. Make the most out of them for your pet by using the wheelchairs for trips outside, playing, socialization, and exercise. After plenty of activity, your pet will most likely be ready to rest and relax at home and off the wheelchair. You also get your pet on the wheelchair more often in a day if he or she needs it.
Yes. Our wheelchair is designed in a way that will not hamper your pet’s ability to relieve itself. Being on the wheelchair and going for a walk also reinforces their “bathroom” schedule.
Definitely. Socialization is one of the key benefits in getting a handicapped pet a wheelchair. While non-wheelchair dogs may be uneasy around a wheelchair in the beginning, they soon get over it and get down to the business of playing.
You can your take your wheelchair-bound pet to a grassy park, the beach, pebbly lakesides, or tramping in snow. Just keep in mind that supervision is key particularly in rougher terrains as bumps and ruts can tip the wheelchair over.

I am very satisfied with this purchase. What I did not like was the instructions on how to use. Had to take to my vet to have them show me how to set up and use on my dog. Trained with my dog for a week short sessions at a time. Took him for his first walk outside today and he did awesome.

This thing is a complete POS The set screws keep coming no matter how much I tighten them, the neoprene harness doesn't fit at all, &the wheels come loose. The more u tighten it puts to much tension on the wheels so that they won't even turn. Garbage.

The instructions for putting it together are lacking. Pictures of dogs in the chair are more helpful than the diagrams. They sometimes were conflicting. There are NO instructions on how to fit the chair to the dog or how the back sport support is supposed to be fitted and attached or how to adjust the front harness. Struggling to figure this out with a dog that already has issues is not good. Probably not a problem with small dogs but a 100 lbs dog is an issue even with 2 people. The chair seems to be well built. Once my dog gets used to it, it will probably work well. As in the instructions you do have to be with the dog constantly.
Great product, thank you!!!

My German Shepherd has DM and has lost his strength in his back legs causing him to be sad and depressed. Since giving him his new wheels, he seems like a new dog and his energy and attitude are amazing. I am forever great full for this product and would recommend to anyone.

Needed a chair in an emergency for a German Shepherd Dog (85#) with sudden spinal problem resulting in almost total loss of use of her back legs. Instructions are worse than I thought possible. Nowhere near enough information on how to keep parts from sliding apart (FYI< the O-rings are NOT the answer-use small Allen wrench to tighten the small pre-installed screws on the blocks), but our vet helped us figure that problem out. Fitting directions are abysmal. The process of fitting this to my sweet 12-year old girl has stressed her enormously. No matter how we have adjusted it, she is either dragging her back feet or bearing all her weight in the front harness across her shoulders. The foot harnesses don't work very well-her legs have to pulled far out from her body, which frightens her. We have gotten her to use it for a couple minutes, three times, then she is overcome by the pressure of the harness, or panicked by her back feet getting tangled. She so desperately wants to make this work, and so do we! Perhaps if someone would ANSWER the phone we could get advice. OR.....provide a PROPER DESCRIPTION OF HOW TO FIT this? The video does not tell you how to adjust the fit. The photos & drawings in the manual do not all correlate with the instructions. Be aware that the wheels arrive uninflated, so you need to be able to pump them up to about 35 PSI. We have lost precious time with this. I wish I had ordered a different model elsewhere. This one is going back to Chewy.
