The Bluebirds and I love this nest box! It’s very sturdy and is the best Bluebird box I’ve ever had. I love the design and color and will be purchasing more. At first I was dumbfounded that there wasn’t an actual design to open it to clean it out. But after thinking about it, the design is perfect. Having it made the was it is, makes it even more difficult for anything like a raccoon to flop a hook and steal the eggs. Before attaching it to a sturdy metal fence post, I did add a few extra things to protect the Bluebirds and their babies. I removed a panel and attached chicken wire (cut to size) about two inches above the floor of the nest box. Under the chicken wire I added a layer of Diatomaceous earth. This was done to prevent bot flies eggs, etc from getting to the nest and the babies. I also added a predator tube to keep everything but the nesting Bluebirds out of the nest box. Once that was completed, I attached the nest box to a metal fence post and cemented it into the ground. It now proudly stands in my hilltop meadow, and that same day a male Bluebird was exploring the area and the new house. By the next day, he and his mate were both there and two days later were taking twigs in. Now it is just a waiting game for those babies to start hatching!
