What kind of seed do you fill it with?

We would recommend using Nyjer/Thistle Seed or a Wild Finch Seed or Mix in this feeder.

Excellent design and construction. Attractive and functional. The sparrows liked it so .uch, I took it down. I was onder the impression that sparrows weren't fond of clinging to eat, well that info was just wrong! I've been building magic hall's which are the bomb against house sparrows. I would buy again and highly recommend this product.

Finally a feeder they use.

After several purchases of various nyjer feeders, this is the one I have success with birds actually using. Will purchase another for backup.

It is MUCH sturdier than the socks

Ditch the Nyjer/thistle seed socks! This works so well!! The metal mesh is strong and the finches are feeding on it all the time, with no tears or rotting. Bigger

Ditch the Nyjer/thistle seed socks! This works so well!! The metal mesh is strong and the finches are feeding on it all the time, with no tears or rotting. Bigger birds (looking at you, doves) are not able to get a grip into the mesh so they leave it alone, allowing the smaller birds to eat in peace.

Great feeder for goldfinches!

The slide off top makes this feeder easy to fill. We did add a small platform at the base to catch the seeds that drop off and give the finches a place to land

Just filled it for the first time but looks like it will be easier to clean than many of these type of feeders. The seed needs to be changed regularly if they are not completely eaten- so I like the smaller size of this feeder- there will be less waste.

Nyjer Bird Feeder

No birds are attracted to the feeder. I have multiple feeders and the birds don’t seem to be able to get to the nyjer seeds in this particular model.

The finches went to it immediately. They were not suspicious.
