My little dog is excited to be fed this food and lets me know when it is time to eat. The kibble is small and easy for him to eat. Unlike some of the foods I have

My little dog is excited to be fed this food and lets me know when it is time to eat. The kibble is small and easy for him to eat. Unlike some of the foods I have fed him, Blackwood small breed grain free turkey and lentils recipe has little odor. I am giving it a 4 star review instead of 5 because of the lentils in the food. After doing research I have found that the grain free food with peas, lentils, and beans could cause dilated cardiomyopathy if fed as a regular diet so I don’t think I would feed as a regular diet. I would feel better feeding it as a mix with a food without the above mentioned products. That is just me, but my little dog did like this food.

Great option for dogs with grain allergies!

My very picky eater dog (12lb dachsnhund/chihuahua mix) really likes this food. Getting her to eat any dry kibble is a major win, and I do feel good about feeding

My very picky eater dog (12lb dachsnhund/chihuahua mix) really likes this food. Getting her to eat any dry kibble is a major win, and I do feel good about feeding her this food. This food is considered high protein (28% crude protein) which is a huge plus for me as my dog is young and highly active. The only reason I can't give this food a 5 star review is because it's grain free. If your dog has a grain allergy, consider this a 5-star review. My dog does not have a grain allergy, so I will not continue to feed her this food other than on a case-by-case basis to try to entice her to eat more. (Grain-free diets can lead to health issues like dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and taurine deficiency. DCM is a rare heart disease that causes the ventricles of the heart to enlarge, which can lead to congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and fluid in the lungs or body. Taurine deficiency has been linked to DCM in dogs.)

I've had dogs my entire life, but it was only in the past few months that I became interested in feeding a raw diet. First, I started feeding them frozen raw meat morsels blended with traditional kibble. Then I began thinking about the kibble, which is overcooked and lacks nutritional value. So, I looked into slow cooked, which retains nutrition, Backwood ingredients are some of the best I've seen in any dry food and my dogs are loving it. I love my dogs and I want them to be healthy and around for a long time. Not only do my dogs love this food, but I caught the cats trying to eat it, too. Based on other slow-cooked dry foods (and I just did a serious online search), the pricing on Backwood is very good. I plan on sticking with this product and raw and slow cooked overall.
