Kent / Blue Seal Home Fresh Multi-Flock Chick N Game Starter Grower 22% Protein Poultry Food, 50-lb bag

We are raising Buff Orpington Chickens, the breed is a big really fluffy chicken. We were looking for a higher protein chick starter option, and the 22% is perfect. The chicks thrived on it, and I also feed this to help with feather regrowth after molting. My chickens are super fussy and will not eat pelleted food, so their primary feed is a whole grain product with some smaller pellets mixed in, 16% protein, but I am assuming that most of the protein is in the pellets that they leave behind. Since I have both hens and roosters, I do not want to feed a layer feed. The higher calcium level in Layer feed is not healthy for roosters, so I mix this in with their grains and they are all thriving 20% starter/grower, 80% grain. The first flock that we raised from a hatchery, we used a starter from a famous name pet food. The chicks were fine and healthy. We switched to this the Kent/Blue Seal starter for the second group from the same hatchery (chicken math is real.) and third group that we hatched right here with their parents. The second and third group are twice the size of the original flock and look more like the text book Buffs. I do not recommend this for water fowl or turkey poults unless you are going to add a supplement, as both have a higher protein requirement for starter (26 to 30%) and have a higher vitamin E and calcium requirements for development.
