MultiSentials Vitamins and Minerals

I used MultiSentials for about a month on all four of my horses. My vet had suggested a vitamin and mineral supplement specifically for my mare who has arthritis

I used MultiSentials for about a month on all four of my horses. My vet had suggested a vitamin and mineral supplement specifically for my mare who has arthritis and some hoof issues. I followed the directions on the bag and tried to work up to 3 ounces a day over a few weeks. However, that seemed to be too much, as a fair amount was left in their feeders after being mixed with 2 quarts of pellets and they all had loose stools after starting. My mare finished more of it than the others as did my rescue 3 year old. I scaled back to about an ounce a day so as not to waste product and that seemed to be about right for them. MultiSentials has a strong apple scent, which was not unpleasant and it is in granulated form as you can see in the pics. The horses were initially attracted to the scent so I thought I would see if they would lick it off my hand but that didn't work. It is a 25 pound bag, which makes it cost effective and long lasting. There was not a scoop included (unless it is really buried at the bottom!). It would help to have a one ounce scoop with the product.

I tried adding a small amount of Kent/Blue Seal Sentinel Care MultiSentials to our horses existing supplements and it did not go well. Although the package contents look fine it does have a very strong odor that noticeable upon opening the bag. I tried top dressing a small amount, about a tablespoon and a half, on their feed ration and the horses ate around it. I then tried mixing the same amount into the feed and they wouldn't eat it. I guess I have picky horses. I was hoping they would like it since the ingredients look pretty good.

I have two easy-keeper quarter horses that only receive about half the recommended amount of their complete feed and have been worried that they were not getting a full complement of required vitamins and minerals since they are both 20+ years old. I was excited to discover Sentinel Care's Multisentials vitamin and mineral supplement. It fit the bill for what I was looking for in a vitamin/mineral supplement. Moreover, there were no problems adding it to my picky eater's meal.

I balance my own hay and this particular mineral mix has the right combination of minerals that equines need in their diet. It’s preferable to balance your particular hay but I’m grateful that the company doesn’t add any iron, that’s very rare and I’m not sure why because horses very rarely (or never ) need supplemental iron, they get enough naturally occurring in their forage. But that said, this has a lot of calcium which my horses don’t need but again it depends on your feed. I would always recommend testing your hay and if you can’t have a custom mix made I think this is a great option. It has added vitamin e which is always needed for muscle and neurological health, plus vitamin a which should always be fed with hay older than six months. And salt which is so important. I would feed this myself short term.

Smells strong but seems to do the job.

My horses are it okay. I don't see a huge difference in them but I don't know that I would in the short time that I've been feeding it. If you are sensitive to smells,

It smells pretty strong or at least my bag did (not a rancid smell). Not a bad product if you're looking for extra vitamins to feed your easy keeper like I have to.
