Does the light monitor respond to lightning?

Answer by ChewySep 02, 2020
This product is weatherproof and will not respond to lightening.

Are you able to manually close this door with an opener or something, in case weather is bad and you do not want them to be left outside?

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2020
This door does not have any handles for manual opening or closing. To avoid the automatic close or open, the light sensor could be covered temporarily.

can you set it to open and close at times you choose?

Answer by ChewyApr 13, 2022
This automatic door opener cannot be set with a timer and relies on light levels to open and close. We carry the "Brinsea ChickSafe Advance Automatic Poultry Coop Door Opener" which has the option for a timer.

Can it be mounted horizontally as well?

Answer by ChewyMar 11, 2021
This Eco hen house door opener is designed to fit to any chicken coop with a vertical sliding (or hinged) door.

This auto door didn’t last 8 weeks before the string broke. Very disappointed with this product.

Bought this with the hope that my chickens would be safe locked in the coop at night. Came home one night and coop was not shut up, this was the third day after being installed, 40 chickens were killed by coons and I’ve never had any deaths by coins before. It seemed batteries were dead but took them out and used them in another product and they worked fine, replaced with brand new high dollar batteries just to be sure and two days later the coop didn’t open in the daylight. Completely unreliable waste of money

It’s a great concept. But it just doesn’t work. If the door closes at all it’s not until after 10pm regardless of changing the “light” setting. And usually even then it only closes halfway. Very disappointed in this huge waste of money. It was a headache to install in our coop so to remove it and try to send it back hardly seems worth it either.

I cut a 10 x 12 inch square hole, mounted the side rails, mounted the controller, all looked good. Installed the batteries.... nothing. The red light blinked every 10 seconds. Door open, replace batteries is what the directions said. Replaced the batteries,, the same. Read some trouble shooting ideas. I tried to factor reset, the string broke. I am returning the unit to Chewy.
