How warm does this brooder get?

Answer by ChewyApr 21, 2021
This brooder uses radiant heat so there is no way to measure the temperature.

Does this get too hot to hold your hand on it?

Answer by ChewyAug 24, 2022
This product should not be too hot to handle.

Does this ship with the plastic cover included?

Answer by ChewyMay 10, 2021
This brooder comes includes the clear plastic cover.

Does it come with a bulb? How long do the bulbs last?

Answer by ChewyDec 30, 2021
This brooder does not use a bulb. The new EcoGlow Safety Chick Brooders use a metal warming plate to even out hot and cold spots which occur with plastic heat plates and to improve heat radiation. The new flared skirt design retains more heat further reducing energy use.

This brooder worked for the first few weeks. Then we got a second clutch of chicks and it started going in and out without my knowledge. I lost 4 chicks, each of them cold, but under the warmer when found dead. Initially I was blaming everything else (feed, bedding, even possible respiratory illness or parasite) until one day I picked it up to move it and realized it was cold! Previously it had been hot. It was still plugged into the same outlet but was ice cold. I'm so upset I lost 4 chicks before I realized this thing was the problem. Do not buy. Go for a more reliable brand, even if it's more money.

Consistent temperature

I have bought several of these now and they have worked out so well! I use them for chicks and guinea keets. The adjustable height is great to accommodate chicks

I have bought several of these now and they have worked out so well! I use them for chicks and guinea keets. The adjustable height is great to accommodate chicks and keets as they grow. They all adjust very well to the brooder plate and come and go as they need.

Fabulous heater!

I’ve always used a ceramic heat bulb for brooding chicks and ducklings, but I was tired of worrying about fires and accidentally touching it and getting burned

I’ve always used a ceramic heat bulb for brooding chicks and ducklings, but I was tired of worrying about fires and accidentally touching it and getting burned. This heat plate is awesome. Our chicks are calm and confident, they go under when they want to, and they spend more time building up temperature tolerance. We have been able to take them outside sooner for playtime in the yard, and they go to sleep at night with hardly any cry cheeps. Highly recommend!

Perfect

I like being able to adjust and tilt it, the 6 chicks have room to move and everyone stays under it no problem. Temp stays consistent under there so far.

My chickens love It!

My baby chickens love this! I had a traditional red heat lamp on them for the first couple of days and it was too hot for them- they huddled away it. This is perfect

My baby chickens love this! I had a traditional red heat lamp on them for the first couple of days and it was too hot for them- they huddled away it. This is perfect they go under and out as they feel like it and even three weeks later all four of them sleep under it at night. It is so much safer than the red bulb and much more energy efficient. The removable clear plastic top is great- easy to remove and clean the poop and pop it back on. I highly recommend!

My chicks love it!

My girls had the red bulb heat lamp for about a week and a half, but this is much easier! No adjusting. The chicks move if they get too warm. It uses less electricity

My girls had the red bulb heat lamp for about a week and a half, but this is much easier! No adjusting. The chicks move if they get too warm. It uses less electricity. My only complaint is once they get bigger they get on top and poop all over it. Placing a piece of aluminum foil on it will help, but I have to replace it daily (because that's how much they poop on it!), but it's helping cut down on how many times I have to clean the top of the brooder heater.

Worked great for my coturnix

I read on a couple places that coturnix are too dumb for brooder plates but they aren't! Worked great! Kept all 13 of my babies happy and warm. Bought 2 of them

my baby chicks died, will never use anything but heat lamp again

I got this because I was worried about fire safety raising chicks indoors in a massive cardboard furniture carton. Terrible mistake. I lost 14 baby chicks over

I got this because I was worried about fire safety raising chicks indoors in a massive cardboard furniture carton. Terrible mistake. I lost 14 baby chicks over two days. They didn't know to touch the thing, hard to get the height correct. And unlike a heat lamp, you can't see how they are doing without lifting the thing up, which makes them move so they seem okay. This experience was so horrible. I have raised baby chicks before without a problem. Don't believe all you read online. Wish I had never heard of these brooders.

Ducklings seem to love it!

This gave me more comfort in being able to leave the house without worrying about having a fire. We started with a heat lamp which are known for being a fire danger
