I've used other incubators, of the made-in-China variety that have digital control, egg turning, and even timers to turn this off on day 18 for lockdown, and supposedly had measuring instrumentation for the humidity and temperature of Japanese technology. But these failed to give me even a 50% hatch rate. So I finally decided to spend the money for a Brinsea, reported to be among the finest in quality. This Brinsea requires a modicum of knowledge of incubation techniques for proper operation, but when one knows what one wants to do, it will follow those instructions precisely. I haven't found it to have a day timer--no automatic shutdown of the egg turning process for lockdown. Lockdown must be initiated manually, including humidity adjustment. But when I set the incubation to 50% humidity at 99.3F, then up to 64% humidity for the final three days, it yielded a 100% hatch rate for me--the first such experience I have had. The peristaltic pump was difficult to set up for a first-timer, and I had to find a YouTube video to explain it, as I was still unclear from the manual's explanation, but once it was set up, all worked flawlessly. The egg turner must be set to a particular number representing degrees of rotation. This required marking the eggs and watching how far they actually turned based on their diameter in order to adjust the figure for ideal operation. The eggs are not continuously rotated in the same direction: they rotate to the left, then on the next cycle to the right, which is much gentler on the eggs' internal chalaza--likely one of the reasons for the higher hatch rate. I have not yet checked the temperature reading with a separate thermometer for calibration purposes. But two yields (so far) of 100% hatch rate leave me no question that it is already accurate enough--and one of those occurred even after the LCD screen indicated days where the temperature had exceeded the limit in the room, and a cold night draft had dropped it below its heating ability as well...yet the chicks survived this! Very happy customer...worth the price.

I paid the extra for the Brinsea because I wanted the auto humidity and I knew the company made a great product. This incubator was fabulous. We were trying to hatch a backup rooster, as our current, sweet roo is getting up there in years and we want to continue his genetics. The humidity and temp held to the set numbers, and on day 21 hatching commenced! If the eggs are fertile and fresh, and you set the incubator up properly, you’ll have chicks for sure. 3 out of our 4 fertilized eggs hatched, and upon inspection, the 4th one developed but there must have been a deformity because it didn’t absorb its yolk and died before hatch. The three chicks are thriving and the incubator is stored for now, but we will use it again for sure!

Our first time incubating Chicken Eggs was a wonderful experience with the Maxi 24EX. We hatched 7 new chicks! The easy to use instructions made the process so easy. The only thing I would recommend is having some kind of handle on the top to be able to lift the dome when needing to candle or remove eggs. Can't wait to use again!

So far so good

It's new so I don't have much to say yet - it seems to hold temp and humidity okay. I will have a hatch rate in 2 weeks
