When I first got these I wasn't too sure about them. I've had them for over a month now and we really like them. My dogs are still pups (1.5 yrs) and they try to fly down these steps. I was afraid they might hurt themselves. The steps were slippery. So I installed these stair treads and it is so much better. You have to get carpet tape and put under to hold them down, but it works great. The stairs actually look nicer and the dogs and the rest of us (;) can get a grip and not slip!
These are attractive, but do not lay flat, thus creating a tripping hazard. I got them for our senior springer spaniel, with arthritis, who is having difficulty with the steps outside the front door. I imagined that stair treads might help him with traction. If they had some sort of adhesive, they might work better, but where these are outdoors, it probably would wear away, especially with Maine weather. Unfortunately, I am returning them.
My dog is scared of falling in the stairs and this mats helped her go up and down the stairs
The positives: *These are very thick, and appear to be very sturdy *No glue on the back means no damage to the stairs The negatives: *Do not stay in place - I see that there are mixed reviews on this, and I'm wondering if the type of stairs make a difference? We have highly polished, stained wood stairs, and they can't seem to get through one walk-over with staying in place. HOWEVER, since I didn't want to waste the money, I put them outside on non-glossy painted stairs, and they seemed to stay in place much better. Unfortunately, for the cost, I would not purchase them again.
These rugs came very stiff in a concave shape and wouldnt stay in place. I used rug tape that helped a little but they still eventually slid back into the riser. Eventually I bought new rug tape and everything is good. Perhaps I should have rolled them up in the opposite direction and put them back in the box until they laid flat. I'm happy with them now but still need the tape as my Shepherd and med sized rescue run down the steps whenever someone comes to the door.
I have gotten these in the past and they were great on poly hardwood floor steps. But this time I got them for painted steps and they do not stick to steps all that great. Actually, they don't stick at all :(
We have an older dog needing treads on the stairs to reduce slipping and help with traction. These treads are OK for that purpose. The problem is our dog tries to go around them. We are not sure this is the best solution. They are pricey for just 4 rubber treads.
These were great in the beginning. After five months of daily usage, they stick so little, I fear they’ll become more dangerous than the actual wooden stairs. Don’t know how to bring the tread back so they stay on the stairs.
My 6 month old Flat-coated Retriever puppy learned how to go up and down our hardwood stairs when he was 4 months old. Then all of a sudden he became very fearful and refused. I assume he must have fallen or slipped at some point, but it's a small house, and he was really never out of our sight, so not sure what caused this fear. We bought 8 of the treads for the bottom 8 steps ... and he quickly learned to go up the stairs. Bought 8 more for the top 8 stairs ... and it took him a bit longer, but he eventually was able to go down the stairs once again! They move a bit from where you place them, but I wouldn't call it "slipping", just little nudges here and there. I loved the look of my hardwood stairs and really didn't want to cover them up. But honestly, they look pretty good ... and well worth keeping our dog safe and happy!
These stair treads save my old dog from injury and allow him to go where he wants to be. He used to fall trying to go up two wooden steps, but now he goes up easily, albeit slowly, without injury every time. Highly recommended!
