The fact it was a toy my bird could interact with.
My cockatoo wasn't a big fan I'm afraid. It didn't take him long to be completely disinterested in it. I even put his favorite snacks in, but he still wanted nothing
My cockatoo wasn't a big fan I'm afraid. It didn't take him long to be completely disinterested in it. I even put his favorite snacks in, but he still wanted nothing to do with it. It did hold up to him very well though. He tried to sit on it at one point and it feels off.

Our small Cockatoo cycles through his feeders regularly and before it broke, it was one of the best ones (and our first one!) it has two holes on the spinning face plate to make sure all of the food can be gotten, no matter which slots are filled. We don’t overfill it, as the food would just fall out as the face plate spun. I would recommend a tray or bowl directly underneath it, as the food can fall out when spinning. It only has one bolt to be removed when trying to fill or clean it so taking it apart is extremely easy. Some hard to reach spots for scrubbing, though, so I recommend a bottle brush or something with long bristles for the tight spots. It snaps into place on the cage fastener for easy remover, while leaving the base still attached to the cage. The face place jiggles a lot and can be a little noisy sometimes when our cockatoo engages with it. VERY thick and durable plastic on the whole feeder, except the prongs that fasten it to the cage are a little flimsy. Easy to overtighten to the cage (BEWARE!!) and they ended up snapping off eventually, so it is unusable now. Our Goffin never did any more than cosmetic damage do it and I HIGHLY recommend this feeder for medium or smaller beaks, but I’m not sure if a macaw beak would fit well in the holes (no experience with it). Our Goffin loved to play with it even just with crumbs. We will be replacing it with the next batch of feeders we try out.
bird puzzle
My cockatoo loved his first one and used it for several years before it broke. This one was broken when I received it, so I haven't bought another.

This is one of my African Grey's fav foraging toys. She figured out how to move the lids out of the way to get the treats right away. Interestingly, she closes the lid again after she removes the treat. :) I fill it with shredded paper and nuts, and she checks it periodically during the day to see if I've added anything. Very sturdy and will last years even though my bird gives it a beating several times a day! Worth the money to not have to replace it b/c of rough wear and tear.
works well if you put stuff they like in it
I have 2of these. One bird figured it out quickly-other bird still working on it. No problem with them destroying it -its very strong! It has helped some with one

IMO, this forager is a quality item, built to last. It can be used daily for years and years. Medium to large parrots need thicker plastic to safely interact with. I own a Caitec that is well made but of lighter acrylic and possibly better suited to a smaller bird. It is also less expensive.
