Good Taste, Disappointing Texture

I was excited to try these carrot slices as I appreciate the simple, healthy ingredient list and the convenience of a natural, freeze dried treat. The good news is that these treats are definitely horse approved in terms of flavor. I tested them on three different horses, and all of them accepted a second slice after the first. However, the horses did not seem to enjoy chewing the treats. All three horses seemed to struggle as the treats began to absorb moisture. They all engaged in repeated, noticeable mouth smacking and chewing motions, suggesting the freeze dried treat becomes excessively gummy or sticky as it absorbs their saliva. It appeared unpleasant or difficult for them to chew cleanly. While I love the concept and the pure ingredients, the texture is a significant drawback. I am unsure if I will even finish this bag and unfortunately, I do not think I would get these treats again.

These treats are a nice change from what I normally use and the horses seemed to enjoy something different. Plus I feel better feeding them something healthy.

My normal peppermint pellets have come crumbled to powder and these are nice because they are firm and do not just flake into pieces. I will add these to my auto ship for sure!

I have a horse with an eye disease that requires frequent treatment and I use treats to facilitate that process more pleasantly—which means I feed A LOT of treats.
