Questions & Answers

19 Customer Questions

Are all of the ingredients sourced within the United States?
Answer by ChewyJun 09, 2022
The vast majority of Canidae's ingredients come from the USA. There are a few select vitamins and minerals that are required for your pet's health that must be sourced abroad as they are simply not available domestically. They use the very best sources available in the world. Regions of origin for select micronutrients include but are not limited to Canada and Europe and are subject to change as availability varies.

why does the lamb formula have turkey and chicken meal as second and third ingredient ? Why not lamb meal?
Answer by ChewyFeb 20, 2018
Canidae uses turkey meal and chicken meal in this recipe because we believe that all 3 protein sources are a great combination to keep the pets happy and healthy along with gentle digestion.

Is Canidae free of BHT, BHA and Propolene glycol
Answer by ChewyApr 01, 2019
Canidae doesn't preserve their dry pet foods using substances like ethoxyquin, BHA, BHT, or propylene glycol. Instead, they use mixed tocopherols (a source of vitamin E). They leave out substances like MSG, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup to artificially flavor their foods.

Does this product contain soy?
Answer by ChewyMay 08, 2018
This product does not contain corn, wheat, or soy.

Canidae Real Lamb&Pea Recipe

Our order had arrived in one day. It was in excellent condition. This is our dog's favorite brand and flavor as it doesn't upset her stomach as most brands do. It's difficult to purchase this particular flavor in our general area. We will buy this product from Chewy.com again.

Dogs love out

My 2 German shepherds live the lamb food and they are itching less. That's a win!

Runny poos, no thanks!

I thought the ingredients were great in this food, and it has lots of glowing reviews on Chewy and other dog food rating websites. My adult corgi must have some food sensitivities, because her poops would get runny as the day went on. I bought the 4lb bag to test it out...and nope! I don't know if the lamb was too rich for her, but her poos were splatty by afternoon. We've found 2 brands that are spectacular. This was not one of them.

Great food

Switched over when Pro Plan lamb and rice was out of stock everywhere and I needed something to feed my pup. I'm glad I did! She seems to really enjoy it and eats every meal now.

***CAUSES HEART FAILURE***

Guys, PLEASE don't make the same mistake I did. GRAIN FREE food is NO good for our dogs hearts. Choose a food with absolutely NO legumes. Legumes block essential nutrients for proper heart health. Lamb is also very very bad for their hearts, so this food is a double whammy. I had to learn this the hard way after my beautiful, young, happy, healthy Great Dane died of heart failure. My holistic vet confirmed it was caused by a grain free, lamb based diet. I Fed this food to my Dane for years. she was sensitive, and had a ton of allergies. she loved it. I thought everything was fine, until her heart failure hit her hard, and fast. I remember hearing years ago, that grain free dog food could possibly cause heart failure in dogs. There wasn't many studies, so I shrugged it off. I really wish I didn't. :( I will never buy any dog food with legumes ever again. NO lamb either. PLEASE take your pups off this food. Everything will seem fine, until one day, they drop from heart failure. :(

My dog finally isn’t itchy!!

I’ve tried so many different limited diet foods for my beagle mix, Dobby. He still incessantly licked his paws, backside, belly, etc. all day. He’s been on this food for about a week, and his licking has STOPPED completely. I am so pleasantly surprised!! I’m definitely sticking to this food from now on. Dobby also seems to really enjoy the taste of this food, too.

Caused hives in my frenchie

Started using Canidae Salmon to help with my dog’s skin (itchy, flakey, irritated). My frenchie enjoyed it and her skin issues improved. Tried lamb thinking we would have the same result but Elaine developed terrible hives. She must be allergic to lamb. Chewy were very kind and offered a refund. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this product but I do recommend being cautious about trying new flavors/proteins.

could be nice

I know this is a nice brand, I had high expectation and really wanted to love this food, but my dog gets sick after eating it, he throw up every (other) day after taking it. At first, we thought he got choked by his hair or something, after 10 days we realized it has to do something with this food, switched to another brand right away and he stop throwing up from then.
