Will this fit in a opening of 83.5 inches!

This gate is adjustable and able to close off openings from 27 inches to 42.5 inches. Optional extensions are sold separately through the manufacturer's website to increase the span up to a maximum of 64.25 inches.

do you have to step over a bar when you open the gate would be placed at top of stairs which would be a trip hazard.
