  • Zero Odor Control

    By on

I was hoping, since this product was specificly for guninea pigs and rabbits, that it would be great for our household as we have one of each. I've used Carefresh products in the past but my rabbit was prone to eating the litter so I worried about his health and chose to use another product that he did not eat. When I saw the Carefresh Custom, I hoped that the specific formulation would be a better fit. My rabbit does not eat this litter, but unfortunately it does not absorb odor at all. Even with daily cleaning it smells like wet brown paper towels and urine. I've never had an issue with odors until switching to this product. My mother in law even commented and asked me about the smell. My mother in law even commented and asked me about the smell. The smell starts with their very first urination. It is the same for both the guinea pig and the rabbit although the odor from the rabbit is much worse. I even tried a second bag thinking the first one might just be a bad batch, but it was as bad as the first. … more

  • Never again!

This is the absolute worst bedding I've ever used! This is hard, clumpy and has a horrible odor to it! Some of the hard chunks could not even be broken apart to spread out. If it was hard for me to break up and spread out I cannot even imagine how it felt on the bottoms of tiny feet! Yuck! I would have given this ZERO stars if the system would have allowed!

  • Bad quality control

    By on

I used to get this bedding exclusively for my guinea pigs, but the batches I've been getting lately aren't as soft as usual, they're less absorbent, and they don't stop odor well at all. They also seem to be a darker brown color than the usual Carefresh Naturals bedding. The last bag I opened had straight up DIRT inside it with the bedding. I'll be switching to another brand from here on out.

  • Works Better

    By on

We have two rabbits in a guinea pig. We have always used Carefresh paper bedding. I have always liked it because it is dust free and healthier for our animals. But I actually like this particular Carefresh paper bedding better that is made specifically for small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. It seems to have better odor control not to mention that it is about the same price for the same size package. I'm definitely not disappointed.

  • Great Product For Guinea Pigs.

I use a mix of this and soft granule bedding for my guinea pig and he loves it. The only reason for 4 stars is that the package was opened when it got to me. Still a great Product.

  • Not up to the hype, but it works

This is the first time I tried using the Guinea Pig/Rabbit CareFresh, but I have used the original and Ulta CareFresh many many times. This does have larger paper chunks which is nice for larger animals (but still has faults) and doesn't have that same burning plastic smell that the "new and improved" CareFresh has (but it does still have a funky scent to it). I must say since the chunks are larger the packing size is very deceptive! A 60L bag is really a 27L bag and it's supposed to fluff up to be twice as big. It does not fluff up that big! This remains almost identical to the same size inside the plastic wrap. Mass cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. This remains almost identical to the same size inside the plastic wrap. Mass cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. And I'm pretty sure this bedding can't create mass, just saying. Science. A bag this size will only last me about 4 weeks while a bag of Kaytee SoftSorbent lasts me normally 5-6 weeks. This works for what I need for my guinea pig and it doesn't seem to be kicked around as often which is great for me since I don't have to vacuum or sweep as much. So that's a plus! But it just seems ok. Not great, just ok. If the price was lower I would consider getting this again, but since the quality is poorer, it isn't really worth the price. As far as noticing urine and feces in the cage since using this the smells aren't that strong but they are very noticeable looking. They don't get buried or concealed, they just sit right on top. It's an eye sore. And not very long lasting. It lasts not even seven days while the other bedding I've used lasts 7-14 days. Overall if you are in a pinch, get this. It does what it needs to but it's not great. … more

  • Wonderful customer service from Chewy!

My original review for this product: About a year or two ago they changed their "natural" bedding, to be more absorbent or something, the only change I noticed was an unpleasant smell. Now trying the custom ones for the promised softness of the larger pieces for added softness for my bun. The first time we got the custom one it seemed to be what was promised, the same thing only with larger pieces, maybe even a milder smell. So the second time I ordered two large bags of the custom. These are smelly large and hard. Not soft at all. We have an elderly bun with mobility and bladder issues so we use this as bedding not just in the litter box and having such hard and rough litter is not ok. They overnighted a replacement shipment and the replacement was of the same quality that I received the very first time I ordered. My bunny only had to deal with the rock like stuff from the bad batch for a day or two. I am so glad I contacted them and they handled the issue so promptly. I will definitely be ordering from chewy again. … more

  • Recommended order from Chewy!

Love this paper bedding for my guinea pig's litter box! It keeps odors down and lasts 4-5 days comfortably, if not longer. When I ordered this item, I expected it to be about half of the size it actually is!!! When shopping in stores, a bag this size would be $20-$25 EASY. I am so impressed with this website and their prices!

  • *excellent* replacement for cat litter

    By on

the cats use it willingly and I love the fact it doesn't track outside the box, remains odor-free and most of all I don't have to worry about blockage if cats accidentally ingest any while grooming which is why I'd never use the clumping litters - try it, you'll wonder why it took you so long!

  • Product always opened

    By on

I get my guinea pig food and bedding from chewy the prices are always the best. BUT I've reached my limit. Every time it arrives the product is opened and all over the shipping box plus I feel worried to put soemthing in my animals' cage that's opened and been traveling. Anytime I called I always got a free replacement but it's becoming more of a hassle than it's worth now. I'd rather go someplace else
