Our 75-lb, 7-year old greyhound had a dual MRSA/MRSP infection while recovering from an open fracture of her leg. We had two vets weigh in to make sure it was the best option (the ortho surgeon and her primary vet) because of all the warnings about the side effects and it not being safe for humans to handle. Both agreed it was the best option. She had no side effects at all. Handling the pills was easy; we lined a tray with foil and it held the pill bottle, a box of pharmacy gloves, and a bag of pill pockets. She takes pills easily though; I could see this being a nightmare for someone with a dog who does not. However, the side effects to her were what I was most worried about and she reacted less than she has on other more “standard” antibiotics.
