The Coralife DC-Controlled Square 300G Protein Skimmer, and overall, I’m very happy with it. It came well-packaged, was easy to put together, and once I figured out the setup, it works really well. The remote control is a great feature, very convenient for making adjustments, and the power button on the remote is especially nice when pausing the tank during feedings so the skimmer doesn’t fill up with water. Pros: - Packaged well - Easy to assemble and adjust once you know how - Works great and performs efficiently - Remote control is a very nice and convenient feature Cons: - The instructions aren’t clear on how to adjust the air screw; it took me two days to realize why it wasn’t making bubbles. - The skimmer doesn’t sit completely flat due to a small point on the bottom, making placement on a skimmer shelf tricky. - It would be helpful to have a marked water level line, as it’s hard to know exactly where it should sit. - Could also benefit from a guide line under the cup showing where the bubbles should reach - I’d prefer a drainage valve instead of a plug—pulling the plug and attaching a hose can get messy - A clear tube was included but not mentioned in the instructions (I’m guessing it’s for the drainage nipple) - It’s a bit louder than my previous skimmer Overall, I think this is a great, well-built product that just needs some simple fine-tuning and better documentation. If I were new to the hobby, I would have felt a bit lost setting it up. Now that it’s dialed in, I’m excited to see how well it skims and how my tank numbers respond over time.

This Coralife 300G has been a decent addition to the sump. Due to the deeper water level in this particular sump, the pump has to be run at a lower setting (1 or 2 out of 4 intensity levels). The water level adjustment is at its lowest setting as well. With this current setup, the skimmer pulls a very wet foam. Our display tank is 160gal and the sump us 40gal, for a total system volume of 200gal. For reference the water level sits at about 11" in the sump, which is a bit high on this particular skimmer (also, there is a Red Sea DC 900 Skimmer in the background of the photo for height comparison). Disassembly is easy for cleaning and the cup is simple to pull up and off to empty. There is a separate drain hole on the cup to hook this up to an external container for larger collection capacity (but the included silicone tube isn't very long). Elevating it a few inches off the bottom would give a bit more control in terms of the pump flow and water level break. There is no app to control this pump, just a physical control box inline with the power adapter. I appreciate the simplicity and functionalty, but some people prefer to be able to fine tune the pump settings a bit more than 4 preset levels. Overall, for the price, this is a great skimmer. My only two downsides would be the lack of adjustability on the pump intensity and the size of the collection cup (a slightly bigger cup would be nice!).

We installed the Coralife DC-Controlled Protein on our 60-gallon mangrove tank, and it’s been performing really well. Setup was straightforward and everything went together easily right out of the box. The DC control makes it simple to fine-tune, and it started pulling out waste within the first day. It’s quiet, efficient, and has been keeping the water noticeably cleaner. Definitely recommend, great value for the performance and ease of use.
