I have a now-two-year-old German Shepherd who gets anxious and destructive when I leave for work. I would come home to find all manner of furniture, dog toys, and other objects in my house chewed/ripped to shreds, and had to go back to crating her when I left, like I did when she was a little puppy. Unfortunately I had only one of those cheap metal wire crates (I know, I know...). She destroyed it - bent the frame, busted out of it, would have likely gotten caught on the metal rails and choked herself if she had been wearing her collar. I was at wit's end and desperate for a safe way to contain her. Our trainer recommended the Dakota 283 kennel. I balked at the price, but purchased it anyway - like I said, I was desperate. In retrospect, I am SO happy I ignored my misgivings and bought it. It took her a few days to get used to the Dakota kennel, but with some encouragement and training she got comfortable and now walks right in, no fuss. This kennel has a metal latch and locks with a key - she has not been able to destroy or escape from it yet, and we've been using it now for over a year. She also seems much calmer in this kennel than she was in her old metal crate. No more crying and throwing herself against it to try to break out. She loves it so much, it has become her favorite place to sleep at night. Yes, it is super expensive and I cringed tapping "place order." But it is of much higher quality than the crates sold in local pet stores, and to have a calm dog, who I know is in a safe place, where she can't hurt herself or destroy my house, gives me peace of mind when I leave for work each day. Bonuses: It's a one-piece design. No assembly, unfolding or struggling to set it up. It's also easy to clean. I have hosed it out outside a couple of times; there's a drain hole on the back end that allows you to release the water. Totally recommend the Dakota 283 kennel.

I was impressed by the overall quality of the kennel and would recommend for people with escape artist dogs. The handle on top is convenient for moving around the house, putting in the car or bed of the truck and provides a great spot for tying down in the truck. The door surround is metal and the latch mechanism is very smooth. I would highly recommend this kennel and will likely buy another for my other dog.

If your dog’s car anxiety manifests in chewing everything in the car, look no further!! My lovely little rescue pup Rosie takes anxiety to a new level and becomes particularly mouthy when anxious in the car. I considered many different crates before purchasing this Dakota 283 crate and was always concerned they wouldn’t withstand her biting. This crate is sturdy and seems incredibly well made. Rosie can’t get her mouth around the holes on the side, but honestly she doesn’t seem to be too bitey while riding in this crate. It has had an enormous impact on lessening her anxiety in the car.

Solid Product
This crate works well for my 94 pound dog. Bought it so he can be safer in the car than being in the back.

I've had a RuffTuff (now RuffLand) kennel in my truck for years that's half the thickness of this Dakota. In order to get this thing in the back seat of our passenger car we had to temporarily remove the side door detent, but dang it, we got it in! Even though this kennel isn't crash tested, at almost 1/4 inch thick, it's not going to come apart very easily. I suppose the door could pop open in an accident, but our dog wouldn't have far to go if it did -- we can't even get a passenger in the back now!
Exceptionally well built!

The all-one-piece construction means that you don’t have that annoying lip where the top and bottom join. I can put two crates side by side in the back of my Dodge Grand Caravan. With the piano- hinge on the door and a lock for security it also means it’s escape proof. It’s hands down the best crate I’ve ever owned!
