Does this need to be covered with gravel? And can you use a gravel vacuum on it to clean it?
Answer by • Feb 08, 2021
Shrimp King Active Soil is not recommended for a combination with other materials. It is a special soil for plant aquaria with special features. The mixture of the two products will become a big mess. The soil is not permanently stable like gravel. It will decay slowly but steadily. Using a gravel cleaner is possible but just superficially. Deep cleaning will disturb the microflora and fauna and also the Soil will deplete quicker.
Can you add this to an existing aquarium?
Answer by • Jan 23, 2023
This soil is not gravel, it is baked earth. While it can be added to an existing aquarium, it can become very messy. The soil is not permanently stable like gravel and will decay slowly but steadily. This would be recommended for a new setup.
Can Dennerle Shrimp King Shrimp Active Aquarium Soil be added to an established aquarium or is it strictly for setting up new aquariums?
Answer by • Jan 22, 2023
The Dennerle nutrient soil is placed under the actual substrate as a fertilizer layer, so it is generally used in a new setup. Thanks to its long-term effect, it retains important plant nutrients for 8 years or more, and its buffer function allows excess nutrients to be absorbed from the water and released again as required. It is particularly suitable for all species that love soft, slightly acidic water (approx. pH 6.0 – 6.5), especially bee shrimp, such as the popular Crystal Red, Red Bee, Tiger Bees or Shadow Shrimp.
How much do I need?
Answer by • Dec 11, 2022
The 4 liter bag is 244 cubic inches and the 8 liter bag is 488 cubic inches. You can estimate the substrate height (depth) by dividing the cubic inches by the length and width of your aquarium. For example, the 8 liter bag in a standard 5.5 gallon aquarium is about 3-inches of substrate.
