How do the chickens get water out of the waterer?

Answer by ChewyJun 11, 2019
When installed as instructed, the chickens on their own will be curious of the red nozzles and will peck at them. When water comes out, they'll now know where to get their next clean drink of water. After some time, the rest of your flock should catch on just by seeing the other chickens.

Are the nipples replaceable?

Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2020
At this time, replacement parts are available separately through the manufacturer.

Does this work with ducks as well?

Answer by ChewyMay 08, 2019
This waterer was designed with chickens in mind.

Can you use this with Chicks? Some reviews say their adult chickens couldn’t figure it out, but if I could get babies to use it from the start it looks way easier!

Answer by ChewyApr 28, 2019
This waterer is known to work with chicks who are as young as 7 days old.

Too small

Need a water bucket for 20 chickens. This is not the size nor is it suitable for my chickens. It will leak.

Just got this literally 30 minutes ago. I put it in the brooder, pressed the nipple a couple times, and my 3-week old chicks took to it instantly. I was so tired of cleaning out the water container two or three times a day, coming to find that they tipped it over, etc. I was thinking it would take a few days. Nope! My life just got so much easier.

I love it! Took the chickens a few days to get the idea, I had to take up other water, but the second day they were thirsty and when I started pressing on nozzle to get it to drip they saw water and started to peck right at it too. So once they got it down there was no problem, but it did take a few times showing them and for them to get a bit thirsty with no other water to really do it. Now its great, as the water is not getting dirty and no bugs in it either.

Took my girls about half an hour to figure this one out--one chicken got it, and over the next day or so she taught the rest--but now they love it and so do I. I only have to fill the water about once a week, and it stays perfectly clean with virtually zero spillage. I do highly recommend that you get the cone that sits on top of the lid to prevent roosting (Chewy wasn't carrying it when I bought one, but hopefully they will soon) because the plug that covers the opening in the lid isn't super tight and chicken waste + rainwater could create runoff that might drip into the water bucket. But with that cone accessory I've had zero problems. For the winter, drop a little aquarium heater straight into the bucket to prevent the water AND the nipples from freezing--works like a charm even in our occasional 10-degree weather!
