The Litter Cats Love

Dr. Elsey’s believes litter can be loved—by cats and their owners. They’re on a mission to help keep cats in loving homes by providing proven, veterinarian-formulated solutions.

They Speak for Cats

Dr. Elsey’s puts heart, soul, and science into every product to solve the complex needs of pets. Every problem calls for a solution, whether it’s bringing a fussy cat back to the box, keeping paws free of dust, or fueling pets’ ancestral dietary needs.

Bring Your Cat Back to the Box

A problem cat is one who chooses not to use the litter box. There are three likely causes: medical ailments, territorial marking, or behavioral issues. Cat Attract helps fight litter box aversion and bring cats back with a natural herb blend.

Dr. Elsey’s is a veterinarian-owned brand dedicated to meeting the complex needs of cats. Founded in 1987 with the first all-natural clumping cat litter, their line has since grown to include a variety of products for cats at every stage of life.

Questions & Answers

What is the ratio of clay to grass? How much of it is clay and how much grass?

Answer by ChewyJul 02, 2018
The Touch of Outdoors litter is a clumping clay litter. The natural prairie grass has been added to the clumping clay litter as an additive so the percentage of prairie grass is small.

How does this litter compare to the regular blue boxed litter? Thanks!

Answer by ChewyJul 04, 2018
Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Touch of Outdoors with natural chemical free prairie grasses grown in their fields can help your cat feel less anxious, bored and depressed which translates into a happier cat environment. Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter is a unique formulation that combines the heavy non-tracking granules of Precious Cat Classic with a medium-grain clay. The result is an excellent clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the tray while providing a clump that will not break down. Both formulations are perfect for multi-cat households.

Is this all grass, or is it a grass and clay blend?

Answer by ChewyApr 16, 2024
This litter is made with natural clay and prairie grass.

Will this work for a stray cat that refuses to use the litter box? She seems scared of the box and freaks out whenever she is put in it, even a new never been used box.

Answer by ChewyDec 17, 2019
Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Touch of Outdoors Cat Litter is formulated to help transition cats from outdoor to indoor living. It may help a stray cat become more comfortable with using their litter box.

I really like this litter. I have several cats and they tracked litter everywhere. I was so sick of stepping on litter and decided to give this a try. The Litter does stay in the box and one of my cats had a habit of using the bathtub. He hasn't done this since I started using it. I wish it came in a pail or had a handle. I'm a senior and it is very hard to lift. If Dr Elsey is alive he should think of seniors and give us a pail. I use other brands as well and find that one size doesn't fit all so to speak. I love the smell of scoop away but have one cat that uses one area of the box and it's like scooping a small goopy continent no matter how much I use. I've found that cats with health problems such as diabetes and hyperthyroidism urinate more and finding a litter that can handle that is a challenge. I use arm and hammer slide for them. No dust and minimal tracking I guess I've said enough.

My male cat has a long history of struvite crystals and FIC. He wasn’t a fan of the pine litter I was using so I decided to transition him to this. Within a week, he started urinating blood. I did a little more research on this particular litter and discovered the reason it’s being discontinued is because its heavy scent actually worsens stress and the symptoms of FIC. I immediately threw it all out and bought unscented crystals. It took about a month for his urine to completely clear up. Do NOT buy this for your sensitive kitties!

I have used this for multiple cats for years. My favorite letter, not even close. You may pay a little bit more than the cheaper brands, but it's well worth it. You will not have the issues you have with the cheaper brands. The first two or three days after I've added this litter, my cats act like it's catnip.

Clumps well

Not good on Oder, but it’s low dust and not expensive. I like the size of the bags, they are manageable. Don’t notice any difference to the other variety.

Dr. Elsey's Is by far the best clumping Clay litter that I've been able to find especially for the price! I buy the 40 pound bag, I use to use Tidy Cats or Arm & Hammer until I tried Dr. Elsey's! This litter is about $1.00 than 40 pounds of my other two brands and it last longer! It soaks up urine better than the other brands and its even better at helping with all the cat bathroom odors without having all those extra perfumes and fragrances added to the litter! We love perfumes and Fragrances but our cats aren't to fond of them at all! I believe that's why my cats seem to enjoy Dr. Elsey's they stay in their boxes longer to better cover up their bathroom "Gos"! You can't beat this litter especially not for the price!

My cat struggles with feeling confident and this litter did the trick! Mixed with regular elseys to help it last and she loves it but it is a little dustier than the regular formula so if you're using it alone maybe consider mixing it? It's probably 3x as dusty as the regular formula to give you an idea but the benefits as of now are outweighing the one con it has

There was a big hole in the middle of the litter bag so it made it difficult to pick up and use and made a huge mess. The shipping box was in great condition which leads me to believe the bag was sent to us that way. I’ve had several other shipments of this same product with no concerns prior, but am very dissatisfied with the most recent experience.
